    Metaxas Roubillon Reel to Reel

Went to a demo of this over the top reel to reel. From their website: In horology, a tourbillon ( French: “whirlwind”) is an addition to the mechanics of a watch lever escapement to increase accuracy. It was developed around 1795 and patented by the French-Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis...

    Nelson Pass ACA Redux amp

My latest DIY build is the kit from the Nelson Pass Amp Camp. In reality, this is a 1.6 amp and not the ACA Mini circuit. I liked that is isn't another black box.

    JVC QL-Y5F turntable

My wife brought this home from an estate sale (love my wife). The cartridge and arm were not setup correctly but easy to fix. Did run into, even with the weight all the way forward, it would only track at .8g. I need to change the headshell, but for quick fix, I just added a washer and it now...

    Grammy Awards 2021

I tried watching the Grammy Awards and found my age showing. I could name the number of artists I knew on one hand. That and most of the music is not what I listen to or would ever buy. Just an old dude out of touch with what kids want these days.

    Weekend coffee table refinish

Came across an old oak coffee table for free. Oak does not fit our living room décor, so I refinished it this past weekend. First was to disassemble it, then a lot of sanding, and finally paint. To get the finish I wanted it took three cans of Rustoleum with turbo spray nozzle.

    DIY Audio Research repair

Spent the afternoon replacing the bias resistors in this amp. The factory carbon composition ones fail with age. They literally split open.

    Melody Valve Hi Fi CDP

While I am stuck at home, I did some work on this cd player today. This one is built like a tank. The face and top are machined from billet and very heavy. Got it up and going in a few hours.

RIP Lyle Mays - The Pat Metheny Group

Sad to hear of Lyle's passing. He was a great jazz pianist and composer. I have been listening to his music with Pat Metheny for 40 years.

    Weekend Project - Nakamichi 700ZXE

    Behringer NU6000 upgrade

Today's project was replacing the fans in the NU6000 amp and painting it black. The fan noise went from 45dB to 15dB. It is quiet now and blends better with the other gear in the home theater.

I had a few friends over yesterday. We spent the day listening to music and playing around with different gear. The main system started out with horn and tube amps. This changed to solid state amps late in the day.
