DIY Built-in Desk?

Anyone build their own desk?

Anyone do this before? What is the optimal height? I see the range is usually between 28" and 33"...
Maybe the chair has more to do with comfortable seating height?

I have a small room that I'm using as my home office.
I got a cheap small desk from a local store that was closing for $25 to tide me over, but I want to make a built in desk.
I'm planning to use some basic kitchen cabinets or find office desk height cabinets. A local "discount" cabinet place said they
would sell me regular kitchen cabinets and then cut off the riser/kick plate ($100 to cut them off) which would drop them to 30".
But the cabinets would run me about $800 which is ridiculous.

I'm thinking 3 of these:

One on each end and one in the middle, so there are two spaces for a chair and people to work (room is about 12 ft wide).
Then lay a 3/4" Birch or Red Oak Plywood (finish it) on the top as the desk
Or a couple of these cut to size:

one on left, two in center and one on right creating two desks side to side. With the tops from the same company.
