R-Rated, Tarantino-Led, Star Trek movie in the works?

Flint

Prodigal Son
Superstar
Interesting!

Apparently Quentin Tarantino has been in talks with J.J. Abrams to make his version of a Star Trek movie, and they agreed. He then got the studio to agree to an R-Rating, which is pretty bold.

I am eager to see how this pans out.

Apparently, and I didn't know this, Tarantino has said he will only make Ten movies in his entire career and this will be the last one. Since I generally don't like his work, I am glad to hear that. I just hope he can make this one work. I like what he did with CSI.

I thought Tarantino only makes movies he writes and directs?
What was his 9th movie? I though the Hateful 8 was the eighth...?

And..uh...I'd definitely watch a Tarantino led R-rated Star Trek movie.
It would be like watching those Porn Parodies...except instead of sex there would be boundless violence WITH ALIENS!!!

And lead actor's droning on and on and on about utter nonsense while absolute chaos is going on around them.

It's all fun and games until Kirk has Spock bent over with a ball gag in his mouth.

Seriously though, not sure how I feel about this. I've never watched a Star Trek movie and thought to myself, I bet this movie would be better if Tarantino directed it. Generally I like his work, although the few clips of him in public, he seems like he could be a complete dick.

  1. Reservoir Dogs - 1992
  2. Pulp Fiction - 1994
  3. Jackie Brown - 1997
  4. Kill Bill Vol 1 - 2003/Kill Bill Volume 2 - 2004
  5. Death Proof -- 2007 (part of the Grindhouse double-feature)
  6. Inglorious Basterds - 2009
  7. Django Unchained - 2012
  8. The Hateful Eight - 2015
  9. Helter Skelter - 2019
There are a handful of others where he had partial writing/directing as well.

I like his work as a rule. In the above list, the only one I don't like is Jackie Brown. And, of course, I can't pass judgement on 9 yet... and I haven't seen Death Proof yet. However, the rest I liked to varying degrees from a 10/10 (Pulp Fiction) to a 6.5/10 (The Hateful Eight).

That being said, I don't know if Star Trek is a good vehicle for his style of movie. Star Trek is all about optimism whereas Tarantino is a bit dark. I'm curious as hell to see what comes of this though.

...and don't forget the incessant cursing!

I'm not a Tarantino fan at all but I actually like 5 of the 9 movies listed. That said the Tarantino influence is clear and apparent in what he directs and would seem odd to me in a Star Trek setting. On the other hand the true blessing is the fact they didn't get M. Night Shyamalan to do it...talk about a disaster!

Tarantino wrote the script for the best movie ever - True Romance. Directed by Tony Scott but written by Tarantino

I used to think that was a universal truth... but I liked Split and I liked Wayward Pines. That being said, there are a LOT of dud's on his list after Unbreakable.
