What Movie(s) Did You Watch Today?

Warning spoilers but movie was formulaic and predictable so not really giving much away that can't be seen in the trailer...

Watched the new George Clooney sci-fi Midnight Sky on Netflix. It wasn't terrible. But it also wasn't terribly original and basically felt like a conglomeration of elements from several similar sci-fi movies. About the only interesting element was the lack of defined details about whatever caused the Earth apocalypse that drove humanity to seek a new planet. Was the surface radiation on the planet the result of a nuclear war or the result of climate change and/or atmospheric degradation? This was never really fully explained which maybe was a deliberate statement... would it really make much difference? A quick vs a slow planetary death? The end result is the same I guess... uninhabitable Earth. Good effects and like I said not terrible. Just don't expect anything new and different.

I disagree

OK so it wasn't good. I should probably say the effects and production value were not terrible for a day off still in pajamas (relatively) free Netflix sci fi flick. The unoriginal story and formulaic rehashed characters were pretty horrible.

i was going to watch that monkey, will do so later on.

stuck on watching the king recently, and watching a youtuber explain a bit further into the history, man its a good movie.

not the best, but definitely worth my time.

Watched this last night super predictable Liam Neeson flick (basically Taken part twelve) but mindlessly enjoyable nonetheless. If you liked Taken and just want to see more of the same you will probably enjoy this one. See best YouTube viewer comment below...

They were going to name this movie something else but the other name was Taken.

This is one strange movie. Hanzo the Razor: Sword of Justice is the first of three movies featuring Hanzo a well endowed masochistic Japanese police officer that Uses his "gift" to interrogate women. Could almost be classified as soft porn though nothing explicit all implied.

On HBO Max

Calibre on Netflix. I wanted to turn it off at a certain point, but even though it made me uneasy I stayed til the finish. Excellent, disturbing!!

Finished it and agreed it was a pretty solid albeit dark thriller. Had a bit of a UK backwoods Deliverance/locals element.

Watched the outpost on Netflix.

At first, i though meh, its legolas in another B movie like unlocked with Noomi Repace (which wasnt a bad movie, i bought it. :()

The outpost is a pretty good movie, wish they gave us more back story or depth, but other than that pretty decent. i really hope they invest in clint eastwoods son.

Had a free Cinemax weeklong trial so have been watching whatever they happen to have featured. This was pretty lackluster. Felt like maybe they probably should have tried to get David Fincher, Rooney Mara and Anthony Hopkins involved but they all read the script and were like "no thank you" but it got made it anyway with whoever they could get. And I like Simon Pegg but this was pretty lame. No regrets at least it was free. 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is about as low as I have seen in a while.

Den of Thieves on Netflix.

I had seen it before but didnt remember it so I guess that should tell me something. But, it wasnt bad and I dont regret it at all.

That being said the sound was really good. Surround effects were solid, the music in the strip club scenes sounded great, and the gunshots were really good. Like on par with Heat good.

The final shootout sequence was pretty damn good and that was what I thought of for a comparo. Now I may have to go back and re-watch Heat to see if I may have over reacted.

The post bank heist street shootout from Heat is definitely surround sound reference material. I also find the sound mixing on some of the Underworld movies to have pretty intense gunfire sounds when played at high volume. Not Oscar winning films but the sound effects are always pretty solid.
