I've just upgraded the forum software to Xenforo 2.0. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'm still working on installing styles... coming soon.
I'm not sure that you can make a rule that "this" is a compression driver and "that" one isn't.
I'll stick with the brand I know. Take the woofer in the Klipsch Khorn, LaScala or Belle. They use the K33 inside their bass horns. This driver is mounted to a board with a sealed back chamber...
I posted that forgetting what my avatar was. I'll use it.
You have a mix of all horn loaded parts there. Starting at the bottom you have two stacked single "MWM" bass bins. Each one has a 15" horn loaded, compression driver in them. As per above, I don't know how low they go...mid 40's...
I'm not an engineer so I'm certainly not an expert on these things...that said... I might be confused here with semantics.
You're right in that (I'll use mine) some bass horn drivers have a sealed compartment behind them. However, my bass horn drivers are ALSO compression "drivers" (or at...
Just for clarification, are you saying low frequency horns, using a conventional driver are 'pressure loaded at its rear' by virtue of having some form of sealed rear chamber or, are you saying they are also compression loaded like a regular horn?
I don't know if it matters or if we're on semantics...
I would think there is a difference between "wide disperson" and "even coverage"
The way I understood it their goal is to have the same impact of sound as evenly balanced as they can and then, make this some certain angle if distribution...
I don't profess to know the "real" answer.... but here's my thoughts.
I too love HUGE scale. To that end, I've always been a horn person and currently have some decent sized horns in the living room.
Wondering about scale, I once sent an email to an engineer I know who works at Klipsch...
Thanks.
My wife has told me I "could" (should) have a weekend get together during the warmer months.
I'd have some logistical issues if more than say 3-4 people showed up for an overnight stay unless they liked the idea of camping under the stars or sleeping on the floor or (ugh) driving...
I can give an opinion. I think this is my first post here, seems I had a PM on another forum (forget which lol) and it was 9 weeks old... soooooo, pardon my late entrance!
Back to topic:
I've owned LaScalas for over 30 years. I still have them (bought new in 1979). I have also owned...
