What Are You Listening To?

This popped up on my ewetube. One of the most haunting movie themes ever written; one of those classic movies that I need to see one of these days.

EweTube just served this one up, Gino Vanelli:

I didn't even know he was still alive, much less still releasing music; my first vinyl from him was a Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs audiophile pressing, way back from 1980 or so:

Damn I feel old right about now...

One I was young growing up in Canada, Gino was on the radio all the time.
I thought it was just a Canadian thang!!

Bummer! Just learned this morning that Blue Man Group are hanging up their PVC pipes and retiring!
Some may view them as just a Las Vegas act, but they developed a totally unique persona, comedy show, their own musical instruments, and a worldwide empire.
And they were musical. I have both their audio CDs and a DVD concert, and it is wonderful music, a struck tube of PVC has such a great, percussive sound. Glad I got to see them live a couple times.

simply red.

since haywood mentioned some new wave stuff i started listening to youtube music, and saw jimmy fallon had simply red sing if you dont know me by now, which is 40 years old.

ugh.

I guess I'm Officially Old now. This song won Song, and Record of the Year at the grammies last night:

This Record was also released this past year (not eligible for Song OTY as it was written in 1969); but, the contrast....

 I too have SOS's first CD, and everything Sadé put out (including a couple concert videos). You have excellent taste! :toast:

I've been listening to David Gilmour's most recent album, Luck and Strange. It is the best thing he's done in years. His daughter Romany sings on a couple songs. Really haunting voice. Love it.

I've listened to it twice, I liked it, didn't knock my socks off.

I'd Give it a 6.5 out of 10.

How would you rate it?

I'd probably give it 7.5. I do think it is the best thing he's done in years. Is it the best thing he's ever done? Absolutely not. Did I really enjoy the album? Yes. I love the vibe and find it super relaxing. That is especially important when my inner child is in a state of apoplectic pant-shitting rage like it is today. I hate office politics.

Some of the other stuff I've posted here I would only give the music itself a 4 or 5 on. The Warning is a ton of fun to watch live, but their music by itself is sort of mid. I love the fact that a new generation is carrying rock music forward. I love their story, and I enjoy their enthusiasm. That makes me a fan and I do enjoy listening to them now and then, but it doesn't mean I think they are in the same class as a lot of the classic bands. I think that is a serious problem for a lot of new artists in the rock space. There is still some innovation happening in metal, which has a pretty die-hard and engaged fan base, but that is the only real bright spot and there is a lot of it I don't like. When you look at straight-forward rock/hard rock acts, I think it is hard to innovate.
