Virtual Headphones

Those use the same technology that Yamaha's steerable HT speaker array from 13 years ago. Using phase relationships between multiple ultrasonic sources creates sound at a single spot and only at that single spot when they combine.

They are based on the inverse of the phase array mic or radar systems.
 
So if you bob your head to the beat would that make the sound fade in and out?
To a certain extent, yes. I am sure they tuned them to have a large window area of effectiveness while still being silent further away.
