To me I just see one amp powering 16 speakers no mater how it's wired (again, I don't get the basics)

wow.... glad I asked now. I would not have thought to wire it that way.
Why not connect the + and - to the same speaker and then daisy chain them thus keeping the speaker wire the same length?

I find the exact opposite as you in this case Flint. If I don't concentrate on exact placement I find the effect very pleasing, even enhancing. I'm not a critical listener so I found the effect more stimulating and I paid more attention to sound than I usually do.
