I've just upgraded the forum software to Xenforo 2.0. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'm still working on installing styles... coming soon.
For those of you that i haven't connected with on Facebook... we are moving! Yes, all this work finishing the basement, and we only got to enjoy it completely done for about a year. I got a great opportunity for a new position within my company, but the position is in Oklahoma City. So we...
Pics of panels.

Front screen wall, with new sub. I should have used flash...
Second sub on riser. Phone didn't want to focus for some reason
I still need to mount the ceiling one. The french cleat for that arrives tomorrow.
Good to hear from you, Razz! But "little"? What kind of SoCal McMansions have you been hanging out in that a 17.5' x 31.5' theater is "little"? :teasing-tease: :teasing-neener:
The subs are great. I'm very impressed. I got them calibrated with Audyssey, and adjusted the "delay" on the closer sub until i had the smoothest response as per the RTA in REW. I listened to a good deal of music, both critically and casually, and watched some bass-heavy movie scenes. Ella...
As i mentioned, i didn't run calibration yet, but i hooked them up last night and listened to a few songs, since Renate was with me, and songs are way more fun than pink noise and Audyssey "woops".
Since listening to some of Flint's demo disc with him in the Batcave, I really liked the Rufus...
It's an S3000i.
I actually got 2 of them, used. They still have 4.75 years of warranty left. One is going along the front screen wall, and the other is on the riser as an end table :)
I'll take more pics tonight or tomorrow. I just got them in the room late last night. Still haven't run...
You guys are very astute. I drew it that way because that's where i'll want it to go once i DIY the other panels that will fully cover the 1st reflection points for all 3 front speakers. For now, i will probably push the 1 panel forward to at least catch the center channel's 1st reflection point.
I ended up deciding to do the acoustic panels in 2 phases. Phase 1: the essentials, and they'd be most visible, so I wanted to get pre-made ones. So i ordered 9x 4'x2' (3.6" thick) panels from GIK Acoustics for the side walls and one for the ceiling. Phase 2 will be DIY'ing the others for the...
Thanks for the compliments, guys, and the suggestions, Flint. You are right, i could do a 1" on the soffit.
How's this look? Green dashed line is the room centerline. The tan rectangle is the trim between black/white ceiling, so a panel can't go across that.
I did a little geometry and...
So you can see by the bare side wall in the last picture above, I have not done the whole acoustic panel thing yet. I am still deciding whether i want to DIY or buy them, but either way, i'd like to come up with a treatment plan. My initial thought is to treat 3 places:
1) Primary early...
I realized over the weekend that I hadn't updated this thread in awhile. I did end up getting an actual screen. It's an Elite Screen 125" (diag) 2.35:1, with the CineWhite material. View Size: 48.9" H x 115.2" W. It seems quite good for the money. It's definitely brighter than when we were...
I forgot to post a picture. As you can see, we have some priming/painting to do of the white trim, but otherwise it's done and functional. The Mel Brooks Collection box is throwing me off as to where to put it, so i put the Star Wars DVD trilogy in front of it :)
Also, my MIL made me a...
Stained and poly'd. I'll take better pictures once everything is dry and the painters tape is off. It always amazes me how much oak changes in appearance with stain.
This evening i'm hoping to remove all pencil marks (i found a magic eraser works well for that), and fill any holes with wood putty. Then we can start sanding tomorrow.
Edit: I have to clean the garage out tonight, too... just a bit of sawdust in there :happy-smileygiantred:
We even squeezed in a trip to the Philly Auto Show Saturday night.
Fin climbed into the back of a Dodge Ram.
He also liked the Harley display.
