Nowadays, solid state amps sound really good even at lower price. Some audiophiles spend extra for "bling" factor or bragging rights, not the sonic quality (even though they think it is, i.e. placebo effect).
^ Those professional (get paid for their work) reviewers are not to be taken seriously. Their income depends on what they say about the product. If they get too honest about what they review, their workload will shrink and so will their income.
