I've just upgraded the forum software to Xenforo 2.0. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'm still working on installing styles... coming soon.
Okay, so is this dangerous or not? From what I've read if this happens one should remember what caused it and avoid repeating it.
Well, I have mild temporary threshold shift with small bit of ache in my right ear. This occurred after listening to my sub trying to play the loudest scene in the...
So if flattest to 20hz is ideal (without issues to the sub) which of these graphs is the overall flattest then? These are the flattest ported settings from what I can tell. The dark grey trace has my vote (1 port, EQ1, Q3). It's actually pretty flat down to 16hz.
The mic was 90 degrees in both measurements. The generic WM-61A calibration file boosts the levels 1dB at 7450Hz, up to 2.9dB at 15Khz, and 2dB at 20khz. The graph i posted seems to reflects this. It has nothing to do with mic position as it was the same exactly in both measurements. I just...
Re: New VTF-15H measurementhttp://wws - Using the DIY WM-61A
Devil's advocate is fine. I agree with you thoughts mostly here. This sub sounds great at most any setting, though I'd really have to spend a lot of time comparing the settings with music and movies to see if I can hear a difference...
IG, I think Soundhound was misunderstanding your use of the words "proper measurement mic", when it seems he thought you were implying the DIY mic is not considered as such, but to me it sounds like you were saying it would fall into that category. The implication was that the RS meter was not a...
Okay I took the 45 measurements needed 1 in the sweet spot. one a little infront and to the left, and the other a little behind and to the right. All measurements though where still inside the center seat cushion area. I apologize for not keeping the colors the same as the previous graphs, but...
This should be much more accurate than the RS meter measurements found at this post (you can click to compare if you'd like):

Anyway, here is the FR response from 10-100 (I up'ed it from 80). The main Right Front speaker is on but...
And here is the freestanding measurement vs. the taped to the RS meter measurement.
NOTE: The placement isn't exactly the same so that probably explains the differences in the bass, plus the dishwasher is on now. Lastly, both measurements were without a calibration file.
So the high...
Also the WM-61A capsule has generic calibration files available from 300hz to 22000 hz online. It seems that this capsule may only be 2.5dB down in the higher freqs. Here is my comparison using this file.
I got the file from here:

Actually when I soldered the capsule the wire wasn't perfectly straight. The mic capsule is about 45 degrees relative to the wire. So In the pic it actually is pointing straight up to the ceiling.
Thanks soundhound for your help with this.
So would this be better for measuring response at the couch. I tapped the cable to the couch and put a soft foam pad ontop of the tapped area. Would it be perferable to just remove the foam?
FYI: Yeah there is a coffee table in front of the couch. I'll remove it when making room response...
I understand. I'll make sure I leave just the DIY mic by itself when I make measurements with it. By the way here are the pics of how I had the DIY mic taped to the RS meter and some closeups that you can see my soldering job (which works, but isn't the best):
Okay, I finished my measurement mic. I bought some helping hands with alligator clips and this helped a lot. I was able to successfully solder my first capsule on the first try, albeit my soldering could have been a better - but it works so that's what counts right?
Anyway, I hooked it up to my...
I thought about that but that would only work for stereo, which may or may not be the same when it comes to movies. For dvd I use the receiver to decode, for blu ray I use my PS3 (LPCM). I'm not sure how easy it would be to test these formats. For what it's worth I emailed the manufacturer.
Hi, does anyone know if these modes bypass the manual speaker distance and crossover settings? I've read that these modes usually disable these things, but I cannot verify this with the Onkyo. The manual says Audyssey Dynamic EQ/Volume, tone, music optimizer, and equalizer settings don't work...
Apparently SVS didn't want to send the PB13 saying that Ikka's measurements of it over at home theater shack is all one needs to know about that sub. Also, the current PB12+ has similar performance to the older Ultras according to SVS. It will be interesting to see the differences.
I was using the default skin for this forum (under board preferences in the user control panel) and didn't have any trouble seeing these links. I went changing to some others and if you are using the subsilver2 board skin, it appears that the hyperlink does not show (just a hint of blue compared...
The link is the word "one" in the following line of my 2nd post on this thread:
I was expecting a difference between these two mics judging by all the comments on forums and measurements done like this one.
I'm not going to keep using this meter for measurements. I'm building the DIY mic...
