I've just upgraded the forum software to Xenforo 2.0. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'm still working on installing styles... coming soon.
Coincidentally I have thought about this topic a lot the past couple of years. Over the years as I've gotten better speakers, etc, and have listened to a wider variety of music, I realize how poorly or strangely recorded/mastered many albums are.
While I of course enjoy listening to good...
Cool, let us know your long term impression of the Bluesound as you get more familiar with it.
Just a side note for anyone else who may be having intermittent issues with Squeezeboxes -
Back when my Squeezebox Duet was working, it was always pretty good about connecting to my Logitech Media...
I just caught up on episodes 8 and 9. I was initially confused by the timeline of episode 8, as I thought Discovery was before The Original Series (TOS), yet they were showing footage (albeit the unaired pilot) from TOS. From what I've read, the TOS pilot took place a few years before TOS (in...
Thanks for the ideas! The preamp is just a little over a year old, so I hope the pot isn't shot already, but I know there are always manufacturing issues, etc.
Also just curious, if it was DC leakage, would the crackling stop after turning the potentiometer a few times?
Something I've noticed with the volume knob (potentiometer) on my Parasound 2100 preamp, is that it will occasionally make crackling sounds when I turn it, whether manually or via the remote control, and whether music is playing or not. I find that if I turn the knob a couple times, it goes...
When I was putting my main system together I purchased a pair of the same speaker cables (with the ultra sonic welded connectors).
I feel they are quite pricey for speaker cables (compared to using generic cable that would likely perform just as well), and don't really have the...
Agreed, we (as consumers) just don't know how much Beryllium rubs off if handling it, I've always been kind of surprised speaker makers would use it in products we use in our home. (E.g. if you have kids and they poke the tweeter, etc.)
Back when Usher speakers was one of the first to start...
I'm by no means an expert, but from what I understand Beryllium is safe in solid form, but the manufacturing process can be pretty toxic. Likewise, if a Beryllium tweeter is broken, the dust is quite toxic as well. As such, I wouldn't ever want to hold Beryllium either, even in solid form...
This is the second (not third) season, right? Or have I missed something lol?
In terms of being a Star Trek show, my friends and I have been disappointed in this series so far.
I feel the show is ok in terms of entertainment value, but would be better off as an independent show not part of...
Gotcha, I didn't realize there was a difference between impulse and step response measurements. I slightly edited my previous post to consistently refer to Stereophile's chart as a step response.
Do both step and impulse response experiments send a full range signal (of some sort) to the...
Wow cool stuff! I've never seen a graph like this, so learning about how to convert difference in dB to distortion % is definitely interesting. I was wondering, how does the measurement device/software know that it's picking up on the 2nd and 3rd harmonics? (Also not to be a spelling bee, but...
It's really tempting lol! If only you had started building speakers (to sell) before I put together my new system last year. But similar to what Haywood mentioned, I'll definitely be interested in something sometime in the future!
I've noticed this for several months now. It's not enough they show ads at the beginning of videos, now they put 2-4 ads throughout the duration of the video *roll eyes*
I know this isn't rock or jazz drumming, but figured I'd share this which I came across many years ago.
Just ignore the beatboxer, and the stick spinning and juggling (though it's a bit entertaining) - check out the drummer's light touch and precision:
I think in another thread you mentioned how you couldn't match heeman's bass performance, and I know I asked about the woofers you chose for your own speaker build, but this answered a lot of questions -- good info!
Nice! I too subscribe to Audio Advisor's emails, I saw that amp on clearance as well but don't know anything about it. I wasn't sure if it was really a clearance price , or just the going street rate, but sounds like it's a good deal indeed.
How are you liking it so far?
Still absorbing everything, but amazing job! In many ways it's an elegant design, and based on everything you've mentioned they probably sound amazing. Can't wait to hear them! I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions soon to come lol.
