    Skyrim

I'm afraid of MMOs - could be a great time waster. Any recommendations? I hear the new Star Wars is going to be really good (not sure when the release will be). I don't have a PC though - only a MacBook Pro. Once, long ago during the days of dial-up, I tried Ultima Online. Addictive but...

    Starter kit?

Ha! No kidding. It seems to be my standard MO - go through a couple of scenarios, do more research, and change my mind. In this case I didn't really change it, just shifted forward the HP purchase for a bit. :music-listening: When I first started shopping for speakers years ago I thought...

    The Hobbit - Trailer #1

I'm very excited about this movie and interested to see how it will work. The book definitely has a more fun and lighter tone than the LOTR ones. It looks like The Hobbit movie will have a similar tone to the LOTR ones (which I think is good). He was also very good in The Hitchhiker's Guide...

    Starter kit?

Update: Well, call me Mitt Romney as I just flip-flopped. While I am definitely going to order the Senn HD650 soon, I first went with the Shure SE535 IEMs (in bronze). Based on my listening habits (travel, workout, etc) I decided to go the IEM route and then look for a gently used pair of the...

    Skyrim

I think its 29 but I could be wrong. I have done about 2 or 3 of the Dark Brotherhood quests, 2 of the The Companions (not sure I want to go further with that one), but definitely finished the Thieves Guild. I also have done some of the main story line and am the Alduin's Wall part of it. I...

    Skyrim

If you want to sell a stolen object, join the Thieves Guild. They are in Riften. I played Oblivion forever, even downloaded extra content/quests. Awesome game. I also played the previous 2 titles on the PC. As good as Oblivion was, Skyrim is way better. Just more polished, better graphics...

    Shitty Christmas Movies?

If you have kids, pray that they don't make you watch Santa Paws. One of the worst movies I have ever seen.

    Starter kit?

Ha! I think that's a little over my budget for the moment but a good idea. I do tend to "overshoot" at first until it comes time to actually place the order. I'll be sure to send them your way and let you break everything in for me - awfully generous of you to offer. :obscene-drinkingcheers:

    Starter kit?

Thanks, guys - wow, do I have a lot to learn. I wish I had more of an opportunity to test this stuff out. If I had to blind buy right now I would probably get the LOD from Pocketdock or iBasso, a Schiit Lyr, and for the HPs the Grado S325is (thanks walls), Sennheiser HD650, Denon AH-D2000...

    Starter kit?

I am looking for full size HPs - I was just getting greedy by thinking of replacing my Klipsch with the new version of the Shure's I enjoyed so much. Pauly - I will definitely take a look at the FS section at headfi. Used would be a good way to go at first. I will be be listening to them in a...

    Starter kit?

Good suggestions, thanks. I need to do some listening sessions to figure this out but the choices seem limited in my area. One dealer has Grado and Beyerdynamic. I'd like to hear some Senns and the AKG line as well (esp the 702). It turns out the more I know, the less I realized I knew. So...

    Starter kit?

Hi all, I am looking to break into the HP arena. I'm just now starting to read some of the reviews on headfi and that's, well, overwhelming (and helpful). I used to the have a pair of Shure SE530s (thanks to Flint's recommendation years ago) until my then 4 year old son accidentally pulled...

    Plasma/amp hum

Just tried the cheater plug - first on the TV, then on the amp. No effect - the hum is present at the same volume in each case. The weird thing is if the speaker wire is connected to the speaker and I unplug the balanced cable, the hum is still there if the amp is on. If I unplug the speaker...

    Plasma/amp hum

Good theory but unfortunately not that easy. I disconnected the HDMI cable from the TV to the preamp and it's still there. I need to take it all apart and start from scratch and start off simply and see where it is in the chain. If it's just interference from the TV power supply, how would I...

    Plasma/amp hum

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the hum is there regardless of the source. The plasma is connected to the Belkin power conditioner (though I have tried it directly into the wall). I am using HDMI from the TV to the preamp directly.

    Plasma/amp hum

Okay - this is different. I unplugged the balanced cables and the hum is still there. I tried normal audio cables and the sound is lessened to a great degree - a huge difference. If I disconnect the speaker cables from the speaker, it goes away entirely. So, turning off the TV gets rid of...

    Plasma/amp hum

It is a new problem since the large plasma was installed and it seems to have the same "sound" as the small hum that comes from the plasma itself. It sounds like that hum you used to hear from those long, large hanging flourescent light fixtures. I have not tried separating out the connecting...

    Plasma/amp hum

Hi all, I know this is probably a ground loop issue but not sure how to solve this particular one. I have a Samsung 8000 series plasma and it is creating a hum through the speakers. If I turn off my amp (Rotel RMB 1095) the hum goes away. I have tried other combinations - cable box, cables...

One of my favorite shows - for some reason it's just my kind of humor.
