I've just upgraded the forum software to Xenforo 2.0. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'm still working on installing styles... coming soon.
Hey thanks for the tip Jeff. That's just the sort of rare gem I imagine I'm gonna need. I'll keep a look out for one.
And on the 3x more than I can pay front (but the right size), I just discovered the PSB SubSeries 450. Seems like just the thing, if I could afford it. Anyone have any...
I got the Dayton Audio Titanic 10" diy kit (from Parts Express) about 3 years ago. It is my first sub and I really love what it added to my 2 channel system. It's seems very fast & clean to my inexperienced sub ear. But of course, having been a few years, I am getting the itch. Really the only...
I have a Marantz SR6009 running 2.1 with a pair of PSB Synchrony B bookshelf speakers and the Parts Express / Dayton Audio 10" Titanic diy sub kit. The Marantz has a Bi-Amp option but I don't know how the amp(s) work in this config. Would this be passive? Active? Something in between? I'm...
one thing i forgot to mention is a complaint, in fact my only significant complaint: i miss having bass & treble controls on the front of the unit. the only thing i see is a digital graphic eq sorta deep in the menu - far from ideal, or even usable for me, really. it's a bit of a bummer for some...
Thanks. No stickers on mine, but that's just me -- love the clean monolithic look of this beauty!
and btw if not for the lack of the phono input i would definitely have sought out the 5009 or 5008.
Re: New receiver provokes new question about downmix to ster
Frankly nothing about surround appeals to me. I dunno, maybe I'm just to old (school). I mean, I've heard a small number of surround systems (none very good, I'll admit) and they just didn't move me. Even in movie theaters I feel like...
Some have already read my other thread about setting it up, but I wanted to dedicate a thread to my experience so far.
I'm coming from a long history of exclusively 2 channel, older receivers for all my media in a 2.1 system. It was only in the last few years I finally got the sub, but I just...
Re: New receiver provokes new question about downmix to ster
Well I couldn't resist the temptation to set it up as intended, so now all the HDMI's go to the receiver, with just one out to the tv - so civilized! Its great. It's also nice that I don't have to worry about formats anymore. Now I...
Re: New receiver provokes new question about downmix to ster
Good to know!
I gotta say I'm just a bit afraid of it due to the number of complaints about freezes, malfunctions and unit returns in the SRx009 thread over at AVS Forums. I'm hoping it's simply more that that is where most of...
Re: New receiver provokes new question about downmix to ster
Yes, that is indeed what I'm asking. Warm & fuzzies are definitely important and so connecting all sources to the receiver is most likely the way I'll go eventually. If nothing else to have fewer cables routing all the way up to the...
Re: New receiver provokes new question about downmix to ster
Thanks, but I think maybe I was unclear. I'm more concerned about what goes to my PSB speakers, not the TV speakers. In my current setup all movie audio passes through the tv and goes out via optical to my receiver. With the new...
I am a 2 channel guy, period. Surround sound is nowhere in my foreseeable future (like, for decades). My current receiver (Harman Kardon HK3490) has no HDMI inputs so I use the TV (Samsung UN48H6350) as my HDMI hub and send a single optical out of the tv to the receiver. Nice, clean and simple...
Family photo:
(with the PSB Synchrony One B's)
So it really wasn't much of a contest between these and the Studio 20's. I set them up side by side and the instant I fired up the PSB's I heard the difference before even switching over to the Paradigms. The mids, especially vocals are just so...
Will definitely post some impressions and thoughts after a good shootout with the Studio 20's. Maybe i'll also finally take some good data on my room's LF response, cause it's kinda weird as I recall from my sub calibration and i'd like ya'lls reactions to some charts.
Anyway, so none of you...
Ok so despite everyone's advice I just sent payment on the used set of PSB Synchrony One B's. The price was too good to pass up and since they're discontinued I just can't imagine any other way I'd get to try them, especially in my own space. Fairly low risk as I imagine it would be pretty easy...
Cool. Thanks, all.
And just for my curiosity, what exactly is happening in an amp that has A & B channels? Sounds like it's definitely not separate amps from everyone's responses above? And what about those 5+ channel AV receivers?
My receiver (HK 3490) has speaker A & B outputs, which are independently selectable, and can both be on at the same time. My 2-way bookshelf speakers are bi-amp ready (4 terminals). So if I run Speaker A to the tweeters and Speaker B to the woofers, am I sort of bi-amping? Should I even bother...
No, I haven't. There look to be two higher end showrooms in my area so I'm planning to take a couple holiday hi-fi days soon, although IME this has limited value due to room differences, that is once you're in the realm of hair splitting like this. but i really am dying to hear the Focus 160's...
