    First full size cans recommendation

cool, thanks. i'll look into them. after doing some research a big favorite online seems to be the Audio Technica ATH-M50. what do people around here think of these? also, what is the consensus on this guy from Head-Fi: http://www.head-fi.org/t/433318/shootou ... d-12-02-12 ? he seems to like...

No amp, straight in to receiver or mp3 player. As for budget, I dunno, $50-100 say?

    First full size cans recommendation

i have been using only my trusty set of Sennheiser PX 100 for years now and i love love love their response. after a few foam pad replacements they are finally breaking down (i hear an occasional buzz on big low notes). so i'm looking for an affordable set of full size headphones with a similar...

    Paradigm Studio 20 v3 upgrade to Studio 60 v5?

hey that's cool. i'm gonna use it, thanks. just too bad you can't go more than 10 seconds as i'll probably want to linger in the critical zone a bit longer. but maybe not, we'll see.

    Paradigm Studio 20 v3 upgrade to Studio 60 v5?

ok, that makes sense. i'll do my best with pink noise and/or see if i can figure out the sweep.

    Paradigm Studio 20 v3 upgrade to Studio 60 v5?

ok changed placement and started over by ear and things are much much better. i do have trouble hearing the difference between a bad xover setting (a frequency bump) and a too high gain setting. i have some ideas about using the sine wave generator to suss this out and fine tune (see below) but...

    Paradigm Studio 20 v3 upgrade to Studio 60 v5?

yes it has a crossover knob (40 to 180Hz) and a 0/180 phase switch. i changed the placement (only really have 2 options) and made adjustments by ear and it's getting a lot closer. looking like somewhere near 25% on the crossover might be the ticket, which is about 80Hz. i'll get to mess with it...

    Paradigm Studio 20 v3 upgrade to Studio 60 v5?

yeah it drops down a bit with the sub off; it looks like a sorta step down of about 10dB around 60-80Hz and then it still stays sorta flat all the way down to 5. but the curve so rocky it's really hard to make heads or tails of any of it. i dunno, maybe this mic has a very bass heavy response. i...

    Paradigm Studio 20 v3 upgrade to Studio 60 v5?

ok so it's all set. had some a small problem with assembly: i don't think the cabinet t-nuts are the highest quality maybe. one of them was so bad it just wouldn't take a driver bolt: i felt like i was stripping the bolt and it even came loose from the cabinet. after a few attempts to remedy the...

Tube vs. Solid State Amps: history of the audible difference

Re: Tube vs. Solid State Amps: history of the audible differ hm, ok. maybe someday i'll look into an amp upgrade but that's a little ways off. took some negotiating just to get that cheap Dayton sub you guys recommended me this week.

Tube vs. Solid State Amps: history of the audible difference

Tube vs. Solid State Amps: history of the audible difference

Re: Tube vs. Solid State Amps: history of the audible differ wait, so it's ok if i just keep using my H/K 3480 receiver?

it's just soft rubber sealant, right? what does it do for cabinet screws? (i assume you don't mean the speaker mounting screws too)

    Paradigm Studio 20 v3 upgrade to Studio 60 v5?

oops. i guess i should have watched the install video before ordering. would been nice to get it all at once without shipping cost. oh well. and hey, no mention of the loctite in the video. is that for the cab seems? or screws? both?

    Paradigm Studio 20 v3 upgrade to Studio 60 v5?

yeah that's a pretty different curve alright. noted. i guess maybe i'll try the hand-held recorder route and see how it goes. it will be a far cry more flat than the SM57. i think. thanks for the extra input Jeff, but . . . I already ordered the Dayton this morning! in fact i already got my...

    Paradigm Studio 20 v3 upgrade to Studio 60 v5?

ok, i'll play with it. since ALL mics have their own response characteristic (which is different from my ears) it seems this would be an issue no matter what you use, no? in fact since everyone's ears are different then i'd guess there's no such thing as 'neutral' anyway, lol. and i'm glad you...

    Paradigm Studio 20 v3 upgrade to Studio 60 v5?

ok. hm, well i also have a pretty nice Tascam hand held field recorder (DR-1) that sends sound to the 1/8th headphone jack when in record-pause mode. i imagine i could just send that to a mic input on the mac (i'm pretty sure it has one).

    Paradigm Studio 20 v3 upgrade to Studio 60 v5?

that's great, thanks! that will be the one i try. i have a Shure SM57 vocal/instrument mic here. think that'll work ok? just not sure if i have the adapter(s) needed to get it connected to the Mac.
