I've just upgraded the forum software to Xenforo 2.0. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'm still working on installing styles... coming soon.
I LOVE that gravelly sound he has -- What a Wonderful World is a top 5 song of all time on my list. My favorite female vocalist (Johnette Napolitano) has a relatively deep/gravelly voice also.
My musical tastes run all up and down the spectrum -- everything from Norwegian Death Metal to Italian...
Well... first season is now complete. I more positive than negative on Jodie Whittaker's take on the Doctor. It wasn't a home run, but it was better than just ok. The current writing for the show... I'm more negative than positive. Not terrible, but a little on the "meh" side for me. I'm also...
I did see that, but didn't know if that would be the best option. I'd have to get Deluxe version -- i have a LOT of records to clean.
Since I originally started this thread, I've built a shelf system, bought a LOT of record sleeves, and shelved most everything I have. There are a couple of...
Ok, finally pulled the trigger and bought the Teac TN-180. Now I need to know what other accessories I'll need. Specifically, what should I get to clean/prepare the records with? Some of these are going to be in seriously bad shape.
How far back to the drivers go? With the recent build I did, the positive/negative tabs were fairly "short", so I had to notch out a portion of the circle. I'm assuming that isn't the case for these drivers, but with a double thick front baffle, i was wondering how much clearance you actually have.
So, I know... let me rephrase, I KNOW i had some Acousta-stuf somewhere in my house. I had seen it maybe 2 weeks earlier I swear. However, when I went to go find it--> total failure. So I bought some poly-fill on Amazon so i could get it quickly.
And a picture of the fully constructed...
I was originally going to just have the speaker wire go through a couple of drilled holes in the back and then caulked to keepit airtight. Changed my mind and got some binding posts. Here is the template so I would know where to drill the holes on the back.
When I got the binding posts, I...
Remember those driver holes? Have to cut them out. I still had the hole from when I cut them in the MDF.
Here you can see the cutout fits the template I was using
Another shot of the cutout. I was originally going to use a rotary tool and just score it with an exacto knife. However, the...
Just doing the internal hook up wiring.
First tab soldered.
Both tabs soldered... it's ugly, but again, I'm no pro and it should be fine.
Just to be sure the solder job wasn't a total failure, ran a test to confirm. 8ohms of resistance on an 8 ohm speaker...
The second one got to 7.7ohms. I...
Now for the stain. I was thinking I'd go with a slightly colored stain at first, but when I was at the store, nothing grabbed me, so I went with "Natural". Glad I did.
Here's a side by side with one stained and one not.
And here's a shot of both fully stained. I think i only applied one coat.
Time to skin the boxes...
First step is to put on a few coats of contact cement as the MDF absorbs an awful lot of it.
After 2 coats, one more coat then attach the veneer.
Use a bendable utility knife like this and hold it against the box then slice the excess off.
Sometimes, it will take a...
Started the assembly process. I both glued and nailed the boxes together.
Fully assembled boxes
Here's a close up of one of the joints. Not great -- but then, i'm not a carpenter. I also new I'd be sanding these down, so wasn't concerned.
Here's the same corner after sanding it down.
Next...
This is some veneer a cabinet maker friend of mine was able to get for me. The woods are from left to right, Tiger Wood - Eucalyptus - Teak
Just another shot of them...
