subwoofer inside fireplace - im curious

With it ported in the front you should be good. The open space around it can be closed up to provide a baffle. If the space is vacuumed out and clean you should not have a problem with the dust. The added heat will build up behind the baffle so I would buy an indoor and outdoor thermometer...

Accuracy versus Alterations to suit our Tastes: Why do we do this?

It also falls true in other areas. The DBX driverack has in the settings setups for Rock and Jazz performance. So it is not limited to home audio or home theater.

HD Digital Audio is BS! Great (albeit long) Video

I also feel that this is because they cannot sell the DAW mixing software and the hardware to support the interface. Like computers. You need faster and updated computers to run the software and applications. Same is true in the Digital video and audio worlds. Dante is a new product in the...

HD Digital Audio is BS! Great (albeit long) Video

Yes and the m-audio Delta 44 or 66 allows me to capture 4 channels each. The X32 mixers allow for 32 channels to be captured. Then like Flint has said it allows me to playback and mix it down to different versions. Some of the differences will come not from the mixer. Some of the...

    Flint's method for cleaning potentiometers

I used the Trichlor cleaning agent also and still have a small amount. I have used the 98 percent alcohol also. The De-ox lube I was told was for the slide rails. I clean and lube the rails but not the surface of the resistor.

    Bond, James Bond

So in the history of Tyneham it was the property of the Bond family. In 1683 Nathaniel Bond (1634–1707) of Lutton acquired Tyneham from the Williams family. He also bought Creech Grange in 1691[4] and the family still hold their Purbeck estates. Tyneham school was established by the...

    Acoustics, What Acoustics?

Randy, You need to pay the lady to wear the seven veils, dancing in the middle of your speakers and removing said veils. Only then you might hear the difference, Oh but try not to be too distracted.

Ported vs sealed Sub, What's your preference?

Thanks for the great writeup and graphics. Also with the live sound the drums are not compressed as much as a recorded playback could be.

Ported vs sealed Sub, What's your preference?

That 2 k to 5 k range is handled on my outside sound system by pyle 752 drivers. https://www.parts-express.com/pyle-pdb752-2-titanium-horn-driver-8-ohm-4-bolt--292-2550 The amp is Crown xls 1500 that is giving them 300 watts each. The horns are 60 x 40 degree patterns. The subs are JBL...

Ported vs sealed Sub, What's your preference?

Ok for that sound that kicks you in the chest. It is usually not something created by the sub. It usually comes in the mids around 2 k to 5 k, or the addition of the eq and power of the upper end of the system. The typical eq used in the field has some in the lower 40 to 100 hz. and some in...

I have decided I don't need surround sound, ever

Ok and how about the new digital amp designs ? These are using switching power supplies. I am removing some of the RFI on cables to help with wireless use around these amps. Ferrite chokes on the power cords, speaker wires, and the signal lines. would the same also be true for the DSP...

I have decided I don't need surround sound, ever

So how would the self noise of a tube amp compare with the Solid State ? Also how fast is the rise time on tube in comparison with solid state? If the rise time is faster would that help the impact?
