    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

At least for this moment. I always say that I'm gonna fuss with the audio hobby again come winter, and I never do. But I still love listening to music and am very happy with the system that the members of this forum have helped me cobble together over the years. It is always fun to play...

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

I never did post an update after having lived with the Yamaha for a while, so here it is. I did not put much effort into setting up this receiver. In the past, I have brought out my microphone and used True RTA to set the levels for each speaker. This time I just used the mic included with...

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

I've made my decision. While my main concern is audio, the fact is I'm buying a receiver, a key component in my video watching. So, I can't pretend as if I am just investing my ideal audio set-up. I have been persuaded to look towards the future and buy a receiver that is capable of handling...

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

I just looked through my SACDs. Most of them, I can do without. There are a couple I'd like to be able to listen to. Maybe three or four. Almost all of my DVD-As can be played as DD 5.1 or DTS 5.1, so I'm not giving anything up there, with one or two exceptions. But maybe I'm giving...

Help me out, Batman. I don't know what's what around here anymore. Are you the man to be talking to?

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

This is key. I know the TV is going to go bad sometime soon. We've had it for almost ten years. But I don't want to give up the ability to listen to my SACDs and DVD-As--even though I never do listen to them. Perhaps, I'm being ridiculous in trying to keep these formats.

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

One more thing. In this impending HDMI2a world, where there are receivers that do not have 7.1 analog inputs, will SACDs and DVD-As become unplayable? Or are there plans to have receivers with built in decoding for these formats?

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

No way I'm going to disagree with spending now to save later. But sometimes one has to be pound foolish because he only has pennies. The idea of upgrading my TV and video player at this point seems so unrealistic that considerations that involve doing so bear little weight in my current...

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

Oh boy. If I move up to the Yamaha 1050 to get the new HDMI and HDCP, I lose the 7.1 analog inputs. The Marantz 6010 has the 7.1 analog inputs, but has me spending $250-$300 more than if I went with the 6009 or 1040. I've been happy with the sound from movies. So perhaps I can live without...

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

Looks like the 6009 and the 1040 will do DD+ and True HD. It also looks like it does not cost a lot of money to get all of the features Haywood recommends. There's a refurbed Onkyo for $280. The problem is finding a receiver with 5.1 (at least) analog inputs. That's what sends the price up...

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

Will I need better than a 5.1 speaker set-up to make use of these formats? EDIT: Nevermind. Just did a bit a research. Looks like the new formats enable you to make use of 7.1 and better, but they also are higher quality audio feeds.

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

Alright. It's getting tough to decide between the Marantz SR6009 and the Yamaha RX-A1040. Every time I think I've found a feature the one has that the other does not, closer inspection reveals they both have it. It is clear to me that Yamaha does a better job of presenting their product to a...

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

It's not what it looks like. Or it is. That's a small planting of hemp I'm standing in. Kentucky is trying to get back into growing hemp. That planting was for some research purpose. I'm not sure what came of it, as it was not my project. But it sure was fun to watch it grow.

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

I'm beginning to realize that I'm going to do what I did when I bought my Marantz SR 7400: by a good version of of the last model with the old technology. That worked out well for me last time. I think I'm OK with that.

    Help - Looking for a receiver - I don't know anything anymore

I have no idea about the HDMI 2.0a and the HDCP 2.2. I certainly want to buy something that will be useful as long as works. But I've been getting by without having HDMI inputs on my receiver. Is it possible I can go a decade without having to have HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2?

Just found out the Marantz allows bi-amping too. Wish I didn't. Now I have to think this through again.
