16 x 9 Screen Dimensions

That's for the screen only. Don't forget to account for the width of the framing material. It can range from 1 1/2" to over 4" wide.

Hmm, you'd have to set up a pair of equations to calculate the dimensions for a given aspect ratio:

a^2 + b^2 = c^2
and
b/16 = a/9

solving the second equation for b:
b = 1.777a

substituting:
a^2 + 3.1605a^2 = c^2

4.1605a^2 = c^2

a^2 = (c^2/4.1605)

a = (c^2/4.1605)^0.5

a = c/2.04

Checking, from your example:
a 96" diagonal gives you a 47" height (dimension "a")

a = 96/2.04 = 47.05", check!

(can you tell I'm bored today?) :shifty:

Yes. That's much simpler.
