Came across this site pretty much by accident earlier today.

http://www.2l.no/hires/

19 different songs / tracks / samples in a variety of formats each - for your comparison (and listening pleasure) - free.

I downloaded the "5.1 Surround 24BIT / 96kHz" version of 18 of them, and the "MQA stereo" version of the one where the 5.1 version was not available. Loaded them all on to my server and can now stream them through my Sony Blu-ray players to both my HTs. They show up as "FLAC" files.

Neat thing is that either the files have the song / track metadata embedded in them, or most likely the Sonys are accessing Gracenotes and retrieving it.

I also tried making a DVD with all the files on it and that worked in the Sonys as well - just to show that they could be played if streaming was not an option.

I'll eventually get around to sampling some of the other formats - although I've tried one of the "DSD" files and it's not recognized by the Sony (at least not when attempting to stream it from the server.)

By the by, ignoring all the technicalities / formats etc., the music / recordings are actually very good and great to listen to in surround. One ("Groven: Undring") is a nifty harmonica / organ duet. Yes, that's not a typo. First time I've ever heard such a pairing.

That sounds interesting! Two instruments I've personally played my entire life, but don't think I've ever tried pairing them up. :shhh:

Using Foobar and an SACD plug-in, I can play the .dsf ("DSD) files on my computer. No real point to it, but I've not been able to get my Sony Blu-ray players to recognize the file type: not via streaming, stick, or burned disc. Presumably some of the new hi-res stand-alone players should be able to - although I again suppose that there's not much sense in playing a 5.1 version on them. Which raises the point: how is 2L expecting a simply bloke like me to, say, compare the "5.1 Surround 24BIT/96kHz" to the "5.1 Surround DSD 64 / 2.8224Mbit/s"? I think I'll send them an email.

Jeff if they show up as flac files on your Bluray players, can Squeezeboxes stream them? Flac is their native format.

The music files that I've downloaded have a .flac extension. When placed on my DLNA server and streamed to my Sony Blu-ray players, the Sonys identify them as "FLAC" files.

Unfortunately I'm as familiar with Squeezeboxes as I am with ancient Latvian pottery, so I can't help you there.
