5.1 Audio from Fire Stick

Anyone else have mixed results with extracting proper discreet 5.1 audio from an Amazon Fire Stick? Depending on the system config sometimes I end up with down converted PCM 2.0. I am assuming it's the TV's fault which is neutering the sound as it passes through and out the TV's optical output. Seems to vary depending on which TV I am using... I have a couple around the house... Panasonic plasma, Sony and Samsung LED's. The solution in my home theater was simple just move the Fire Stick down to the back of my surround processor and bypass the TV. Also allows me to lip sync the HDMI audio via the processor settings which is helpful. Just wondering why some TV's do this down conversion despite all settings being told to do otherwise.
