So the story goes of a true lover of music in the vinyl format, being introduced to much better sound through better electronic equipment and better speakers. Which is a nice story and all that, but what got me was the horrible salesmanship at her local stereo dealer.

Apparently the guy hates vinyl as his store doesn't even have a record player. Also at one point he goes off on some kinda tangent, trying to extoll the virtues of CD's by talking bit depth. Ummm, dude the lady came to listen to stereo not get a lesson in physics. What a clueless a-hole, and I thought I had met some losers at various audio stores over the years.

Glad to see she didn't give up after that fiasco, and ended up finding better sound to listen to her vinyl collection.

"Our shop-keep then begins a long-winded and arm waving rant about digital bit depth and sampling rates with all of the best intentions. All the while ignoring the first rule of communication — #1 Know your audience. Vivian is patiently following along as he’s going full-bore at a pace even seasoned audiophiles would struggle to keep up with. I try to interject with a few simple reductions of what he is trying to convey, but he is on a roll and there is no stopping him."

As the pic of the young lady seems attractive, this sales jerkweed must have been trying impress her with his wealth of crappy knowledge. No wonder people want to buy their audio equipment online, rather than listen to big bags of wind, blinded by their own prejudice's instead of trying to serve the needs of the consumer.

Okay, rant over.

Reminds me of an encounter I had at a stereo store many years ago while shopping for a CD player. She tried to push me toward a more expensive model which had a higher oversampling rate than the one I wanted (for a non-critical second system). She said that with the player I wanted which had the lower oversampling rate, "I would only hear half the music".

I then dryly (very dryly) said "Oh really? Exactly which half of the music will I be missing"?

She immediately shut up and just gave me the box of the player I originally wanted.
