Apple's iTV

I've been reading rumors about an Apple TV for awhile now, never posted anything as its all been conjecture. Its sounding, now, like Apple's subs are ramping up for something:

That report says that he initial versions will be 32" - 37". That'd be a surprise as I think 42" is where the average living room TV starts.

There is also a rumor that the iTV capabilities are not about stand alone TVs, but about very large iMac computers with very enhanced TV capabilities.

32" - 37" is ridulously big for a desktop computer at normal seating distances for a dektop UI. It's on the small side at normal seating distances for a living room UI.

50" displays are currently the top selling size for home use, up from the 42" that use to be the sales leader.

Apple has a way with displays, so I'm betting the PQ will be great, but that still sounds high for a 42"-er, even if I can tell it to change channels...(but not in Scottish)

Expensive but still within what people will pay for a livingroom display. I still don't understand why people would want to talk to their TVs. Maybe it's jut a mental hurdle that I need to get over, but I feel weird when I use voice commands. My cell phone and Kinect have voice control and I use it exactly never.

Analyst Says Big-Screen Apple TV ‘Makes Little Sense’

I think the current AppleTV's SDK will be announced next week to developers so I'm thinking apps will be made for it like the iPhone and iPad so we might be seeing games,etc on the AppleTv but at the same time you can do this through AirPlay.

With Apple's minimalist design however I'm not sure how they will integrate DVD/bluray players into a TV. Apple doesn't support bluray since they think streaming movies is the way to go. Having to connect legacy electronics to the so called iTV goes against Apple's design aesthetic.

Monday we'll find out if there is an iTV or not.

We'll see. Its hard to envision what people would want to do on their TVs that they can't do now with an Apple TV or other service. I guess some people may want apps that blend their media and social networking. Maybe video based news and weather apps would be cool.

I have a feeling that there won't be an "iTV" at least not in the next 1-2 years. But much like info and pics in earlier posts/links, I think that a TV in the form of a further evolved iMac with integrated functionality of the current Appletv set-top box and then some, with built in wi-fi, 3D, Bluetooth, etc could be something that would work...it's a shame they don't seem to be interested in blu-ray either, I envision a front-loading slot no taller than their existing SuperDrive integrated right in the stand. I think it could be engineered to be as simple and clean as their existing products and find a place in the market. :twocents-mytwocents:
