This is mis-leading.

Rear view cameras typically only come on when the car/truck is in reverse. At least that's how mine works.

But aren't most vehicles in Reverse at the beginning? Oh, but they're not on yet... uh?

And for the record my camera is only on in reverse on the Edge.
 
As i under stand it, Page 125 :If you activate PDC and then go to IDrive and select "rear view Camera" the camera will be switched on and that setting saved to your Key profile.

Page 123: If you have saved the profile to your key the caera will switch on automatically when you select R.

Page124: Otherwise press the camera button to select it manually
