A great doc on PBS right now about Burt Bacharach. Okay, Music for Squares, but I learned trombone from gradeschool thru high school via these songs. Lots of interesting chord changes, but what was really unusual in this music was the constant time changes: a song in 4/4, then a bar of 3/4, then 5/8, then a bar of 1/1, back to 4/4, or not... challenging stuff for a primary school student.
They wrote many hits for various artists like Dusty Springfield, Dionne Warwick, Tom Jones, Herb Alpert (the leader of HA and the Tijuana Brass, and also the "A" in "A&M Records"), BJ Thomas, 5th Dimension. Nice "journey back" tonight...

Heh, I just realized this show is PBS's annual fundraiser feature video, selling a multi-CD/DVD set. So I guess I'm a PBS Official Supporter, again, for another year. Maybe I'll get my name on a brick in a building somewhere, someday.

Also learned/didn't know that they also penned "Close to You" for the Carpenters; I seem to recall that that song had been released by another artist, was a minor hit, but it was only until Richard C. added the glorious "Waaahhh-Ahh-Ahh-Ahh" coda to the song, that it really became the hit it was. Cool Beans!
