Cable Management

I have trouble with cable management. I am good with running wiring that goes up to the ceiling, across the ceiling, down the walls, along the floor and come into the back of the TV or speakers. You will not see anything or very little at best. BUT!!! Where I have trouble is behind my cabinet (see photo), wires, wires, wires everywhere. It really got bad when I decided to go with separates, so wires run from my amp, to the preamp, from the preamp to the satellite box, to the dvd player, to the tv and to the Rocketfish.

Does anyone have any secrets, tips or suggestions on how to control cables? If so please attach a photo so I can understand what you have done.

With a name like Snake Doctor, I would think so.

Have you considered zip ties? Or Velcro cable ties?

I win!

I have tired both usually start out fairly well but end up with a mess because of crossing wires. Guess I will give it another try.

Do you have access to the back of the equiment without having to pull it out of the rack from the front?

If you do the best solution is to screw bars to the back of the cabinet. You see them on server racks and pro gear where sloppy wiring is not acceptable. Then use Velcro wraps or zip ties to secure the cables to the bars.

Your mentioning of "pro gear" made me think of this.

It's even called "Snake Skin". How utterly perfect is that?

The word eluded me ... The bars I was referring to are called lacer bars.

I use the snake skin. It expands to different diameters and gives a clean, finished look.

I've tried those skins but ended up giving them away. Unless all your cables are the same length you endup having to coil/wrap some to essentially shorthen some. By the time you do all that you don't need the skin.

That said, IF all of your cables happen to be the same length then they are great. Use a little heat shrink at each end for a really clean and professional look.

So the laser bars work with different cable lengths? I am able to access my equipment from the back but I have to pull the cabinet out in order to get to everything? Does that make sense to you?

There are different styles of lacer bars. All they are, really, is a fixed place for you to coil excess wire and/or an attachment point for zip-ties.
