At a GTG some time in some place, there was a small discussion about Celine Dion: love her or hate her.

In response to some comments that pointed to the latter, I suggested that no opinion could be complete without considering her tremendous catalogue of French songs; that most people (almost all Anglophones) know her only by her English / Titanic songs.

I brought up the example of one song of hers about which I knew nothing, and had only heard a brief clip, but which had blown me away with her vocals, and in particular a recurring "trill" that she sings within the song. (I may be using the term "trill" incorrectly. I invite those more musically-inclined Members to correct me if I'm wrong.) The problem was that I could not, for the life of me, find a copy of that song - let alone its title. So I searched, and searched, and ...

Finally I found it. It's called "Je danse dans ma tete" (I dance in my head) and is on her 1991 release Dion Chante Plamondon. (Luc Plamondon is a Quebec composer. That song was apparently a new one for the album.)

I've also found the music video for the song.

Love her or hate her, one cannot help but be impressed with her vocal gymnastics on this one.

Enjoy!

Sorry, still hate her Jeff. Always found her voice to be somewhat nasally.
Now I do remember a while back you touting the virtues of Nikki Yanofsky (albeit her Jazz stuff). Now her...I could get behind!!!

Yeah I've been a huge fan of Nikki's - for all of her still-young career.

She's making the break to pop (from jazz) on her latest album Little Secret, but not yet a complete break (unlike what Taylor Swift has done in going cold turkey on country, to pop, on her 1989 album.)

I like the little bit of scat that she throws in at the end of "Necessary Evil." And of course, I like the Quincy-produced (and written) lead single, "Something New" which flashes back to her jazz roots as well.

And her previous version of the standard "Lullaby of Birdland."

IMO, Celine's overall vocal ability is beyond incredible! Both Zing & I have followed her for years. For me, I loved, enjoyed & totally respected her music career for a very long time. Shortly after her big 'Titanic' hit, 'My Heart Will Go On', I watched an interview with her. She gushed an arrogance I didn't care for and it truly bothered me. She was so not humble or gracious. Not cool in my book!

I do listen to her here and there, and did indeed enjoy the video you shared, Jeff.

Like I stated above, her vocal talent is amazing! But I will always be tainted by that interview so many years ago.
