Rhino Records has remastered Chicago's first 8 albums "to play on modern surround systems", 9 Bluray Audio disk set, $160. This is really, really tempting, but damn that's a lot of coin. :shhh:

I saw that too. So is it 5.1 or "4.0"? I have some Moody Blues discs that sound like they just did a straight transfer from the quad tapes (RIAA curve intact) to disc. The remastered stereo tracks are better imo.

If it's remastered for 5.1 (or 7.1, if that's Bluray-A), I "might" splurge. I love Chicago, but I would rather see something like that from a band I listen to more (like Yes, Floyd, or Rush for example). Honestly, here lately I've been more than satisfied with just 'simple stereo'. I can't tell you the last time I listened to any multi-channel music.

The writeup wasn't clear, was it? I've got a couple disks that are Quad, doesn't bother me because my mains have decent bass output alone (or maybe I should say, my sub doesn't! )
I listen to Surround all the time, I just don't listen to Chicago much anymore (when you have everything memorized...).

From the Amazon.com listing:

Hot on the heels of Chicago's recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the celebration of the legendary "rock band with horns" musical legacy continues with a new boxed set that includes quadraphonic and stereo mixes in high resolution 192/24 DTS-HD Master Audio on nine Blu-ray Audio discs.

The CHICAGO QUADIO collection will be available on June 17. Housed in a rigid two-piece box, nine albums are presented in sleeves that replicate the original release down to the last detail, including mini posters, and the iron-on that came with Chicago VIII. To ensure optimal sound quality, Rhino has remastered each album in both its original quadrophonic and stereo mix on each disc, and so that the quadrophonic mix will play on surround sound systems.

CHICAGO QUADIO spans seven years and includes eight studio albums, in addition to Chicago IX: Chicago's Greatest Hits. The group's long string of jazz-rock mega hits includes: "Make Me Smile," "Saturday In The Park," "25 Or 6 To 4," "Feelin' Stronger Every Day," "If You Leave Me Now," and many more.

"Quadrophonic" gets mentioned a lot. Until we learn different, I'd take that as a given that it means 4.0. Especially since it also talks of "remastered" rather than "remixed."

Nine bluray disc's......thats alot of music and alot of coin. I love Chicago but not to the point of that extreem. Would be nice to have though for those times when I'm in the mood for some Chicago.
Maybe interested if it included some live performances. ....now that would be fun to watch & listen too !

I don't know if there's a video version, but I forgot about this album. I've added it to my wish list.

I agree with Jeff after reading his post. I'm thinking the quad mix is also 4.0. It does say it was remastered, so maybe the quality will still be there. I wasn't impressed with the quality of the Moody's discs.

I may pass on the Quadio, but I did see this.

A lot less cheaper (especially if you go the used route!) and the albums are all remastered. I have a few of these vanilla box sets (Eagles, ZZ Top, Whitesnake), and they sound very good.

Seems a lot of good albums have been coming out lately. Between my brewing and audio hobbies, I may have to get a second job! LOL!

EDIT: Barney, there's also a live in Japan '72 album I forgot to mention. It's also CD. Don't know if there's a DVD/Bluray copy available.
