At Bat's GTG 6.0, I screened Laura (1944). It starred Gene Tierney (and Dana Andrews, Vincent Price, etc.). But Gene was the draw!
Perhaps those in attendance are now fans of hers. Perhaps those not in attendance should be.
Well you get another shot at seeing her, not in Laura this time, but rather in a film not often screened, called A Bell For Adano (1945). It will be shown on TCM on August 17th. I've not seen it yet - and am looking forward to it even more because it co-stars the always great William Bendix (and Harry Morgan aka Col. Potter).
LEONARD MALTIN REVIEW:
D: Henry King. Gene Tierney, John Hodiak, William Bendix, Glenn Langan, Richard Conte, Stanley Prager, Henry (Harry) Morgan, Hugo Haas, Fortunio Bonanova, Henry Armetta, Luis Alberni, Eduardo Ciannelli, Grady Sutton. John Hersey's moving narrative of American WW2 occupation of small Italian village; Hodiak is sincere commander, Bendix his aide, blonde Tierney the local girl he is attracted to. Scripted by Lamar Trotti (who also coproduced) and Norman Reilly Raine. 3.5 stars (out of 4).
