Well for small and independent bands as a low cost alternative for getting their music to fans. I really liked it when they talk about the "analogue sound" like the "haunting and real sound of tape hiss, which is part of the magic". :? Another guy says, digital will always be ones and zero's, and is always compressed.

Sheesh.

Gotta love the people who not only don't understand the technology, but don't understand why, when CD players came out and became affordable, people dumped cassettes for CDs so fast you'd think magnetic tape caused weight gain.

I remember cassettes. I have zero desire to go back to using them. There's not one thing about them that's any better than compact discs. The scratchability of a CD when abused is more than offset by the tendency of cassette decks to maul your favorite mix tape just because they can.

I saw a similar story last year in the NYT and posted it on this forum. I wonder how much of this fad is real or just made up to get news.

Believe it or not, lot's of people still collect and play cassettes. I don't, but some people love the sound of TAPE and play them regularly!

I have a cassette deck and use it maybe 3 or 4 times a year. It is a very high quality Yamaha deck and I cannot see myself getting rid of it even if it just collects dust most of the time.
Was this thread supposed to be talking about VCRs? I am thinking audio cassette decks here.

I sold mine recently. I used to have about 200+ tapes back in the late 80s. I don't miss them.
