Heard this in a store today. Haven't heard this song in probably 20 years. It came on and I went "Holy shit, Concrete Blonde" to which my GF replied "What"?

I told her it was the song that was on and then I realized that when the song came out I wasn't a real big fan of it, but listening to it today I thought damn that's a pretty good tune. I really like her vocals.

That is a killer tune Randy. Always loved it. Sadly, I can't think of another one of their songs that I have ever heard on the radio. As far as hearing it in a store goes, I think you can probably thank satellite radio for that. I have often been at the mall, heard a song that I hadn't heard for 20 years and thought "wow, cool radio station". Then realized it was probably just some flavour of satellite radio.

I figured it was some Satellite Radio provider piping in their tunes. We were in Spencer's Gifts so it didn't surprise me to hear something a little different.

Really digging her vocals though as I go back and listen to it after so many years, and yes that is the only song of theirs I think I have ever heard.

I was going to post "What's Going On", you've surely heard that, but it was by Four Non-Blondes, wrong group.

^ :text-offtopic: ...sorry, I have always loved Linda Perry. Her voice and kooky style of dress & hats. Some women can just pull it off.

On topic, the Concrete Blonde song was certainly a blast from the past! Nice, Randy!

Oh, I'm digging me some 4 Non Blondes too. Whats Up is a GREAT tune.

Although in the grand scheme of things they were WAY more popular than Concrete Blonde ever made it.

And, remaining off topic, one of my favorite new local bands is tearing things up around here and their bass player dude does an AMAZING job on that song (What's Up). So much so that the ego freak lead singer asked the rest of the band to take it out of the song list. Apparently the band sided with the crowds who give them a HUGE ovation after each time the bass player dude sings What's Up.

To continue this vibe I highly recommend Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You" and "Not An Addict" by K's Choice... Oh, and "Sweet Jane" by the Cowboy Junkies.

I'll add links to the videos tomorrow morning.

Maybe a bit more mellow, but in around that time frame. Off Reading, Writing and Arithmetic. Oh...and off the subject heading Randy..sorry!!

^ I'm a big fan of The Sunday's. IMO Harriet Wheeler has an angelic voice. I listened to a few of their tunes among many others kicking back in the Batcave last night.

Shoot man DERAIL AWAY!

I don't care. This thread can be all about similar artists.

I was mainly bragging that I nailed the artist of a song I hadn't heard in 20 years. LOL

CMonster- post those vids...

My wife hates it when I play music like that CMonster, but I absolutely love 6 Underground by the Sneaker Pimps.

As soon as CMonster mentioned Mazzy Star I thought of this one. Hope Sandoval singing with The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Man... Music has a strange power to transport you back to another place and time... to rekindle feelings that you forgot you had even experienced, emotions that you thought (hoped) were long gone.

Mazzy Star's Fade Into You does bad, bad things to my psyche. But I love it.

Back on Concrete Blonde -- the lead singer (Johnette Napolitano) is one of my favorite female singers of all time. I've been a HUGE fan of their stuff and still keep a lot of the songs from Bloodletting and Walking in London on my "favorites" song list.

Favorite Songs in no particular order:
  • Joey
    Tomorrow Wendy
    Walking in London
    Bloodletting
    Caroline
    Lullabye
Ghost of a Texas Ladies Man
    Mexican Moon

Some other bands from that era to reconnect with -- Gene Loves Jezebel, Dramarama, Oingo Boingo

Ya, its crazy how that happens. One minute I am some washed up old dude in his late forties and the next minute I am 20 again and back in the air force. LOL. I really love that about hearing old stuff for the first time in a long time, that temporary time transport you get!
