Country Music

I searched but couldnt find a Country Music thread. I guess not a lot of fans here but other than Blues its my next favorite music. I like the old country and outlaw country and country rock. I seen a Polka Music but no country so I thought I would remedy it. It will probably die but here it goes.

Now is that clean and fast or what?

Probably should have started it with George and the greatest of them all. But what can I say I love Albert Lee such a humble man but my god he sung and played with the Everly Brothers.

george strait is my all time favorite country singer, and listen to him quite frequently. The george strait concert at the colliseum is one of my favorites, aside from Allison Krauss and Dixie chicks.

I listen to a lot of 90s 80s country, for some reason i get myself full circle and still go back to strait. Randy Travis is also another favorite too, especially 3 wooden crosses... tearjerker.

I also listen to some of the new stuff, Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan stuff.

The only country music I like is the stuff I listened to as a child in the 70's. I DO NOT listen to country today. But the old stuff brings back warm memories of my father who passed away in 1978 when I was 14. He LOVED country and western music.

I'm not a huge fan of "pure" country music, but a lot of bluegrass/folk/americana sorta crosses over into country; like Emmylou Harris, who is just terrific. THough I guess some would consider her more country anyway...

Oh man George Strait you got that right. Last of the great pure countrymen. This is one of my many favorites of George Strait.

Big fan, yes George and then there is Johnny and lets not forget Hank and Hank Jr. and Willie. I listen to Sirus quite a bit and jump between Outlaw, Highway, Red, White and Booze, Willies Roadhouse. Also have a few stations set on Pandora. Some of the females, Reba, Lee Anne, Martina, Patsy, Brenda, Rosanne and Allison.

So yea, I'm a fan.

I'm a huge Dixie Chicks fan!

While in Nashville last week, my wife and I went to see The Special Consensus at a local honky tonk. They were having a CD release of their latest: Country Boy: A Bluegrass Tribute to John Denver. They played a few tracks from it. Their instrumental and vocal musicianship was outstanding. I'm listening to their Grammy-nominated Scratch Gravel Road as I type this post. Highly recommended.

If she's still there, I'd love to see Shania Twain when my wife and I are in Vegas later this year.

k.d. lang's Absolute Torch and Twang is still a big favourite for me.

Ahhhhh John Denver my first concert ever maybe like 72 or 73 free tickets first of many free. My friends Dad was head of food service for TWA he would get these and sports ticks. His dad dropped us of and away we went and it was an awesome time. Never have nothing bad to say about John Denver.

Hard to classify Lowell George Southern Rock, Muscle Shoals boogie woogie, Truck Driven Country. Lowell was a hard nut to crack. And no slouch as a musically. He played guitar and vocals for Mothers of Invention in 68-69. I honestly cant remember the first time I saw Little Feet. I do know I had never heard of them and in concert was blown away. Any of ya ever seen them you know what I mean. 21/2 to 3 hours of on your feet standing ovations and just plain awe. I seen then 3 more times till Lowells untimely death. To say the least my favorite live band bar none.

the Daredevils could see these guys in every college campus or honkey tonk in Missouri in the 70s and 80s. They still get together for lil concerts unannounced in Southern Missouri. Always had a good time seeing them.

Man, I'm drawing a brain fart here. Didn't the OMDs have a lead singer named "Jim Dandy", with grotesquely-tight pants? The band above isn't ringing a bell with me (although the songs do).
