As you know I carry nearly 200GB of compressed music on my phone, all from my personal CD collection. It is about 70% of my total CD collection - the best of my choices.
Today, rather than taking an Uber or Taxi to my hotel, I decided to walk the 5 miles in the brisk weather listening to my music, which was set to random. Loved it.
When I got to my hotel room the current song playing was really good and I was very much caught up in it, so I kept it playing with the IEMs in so I could enjoy it fully. I intended to turn it off after that song, but before my hands got to the phone as the song ended, another amazing song started. One more, then I'll move on.
Well, that song ended and another, even better song started... dang it! I have a call to make!
You can guess what happened next. Each song was more desirable than the last and I couldn't bring myself to turn it off.
Finally, in a fit of frustrated irritation I ripped the IEMs out of my ears and made the scheduled call at the last possible minute to be within the 1 hour window we had arranged. I am sure the person I called had given up on my remembering to call, but I got them and we had our call.
This can be a problem for a guy like me who finds music so addictive that even important work gets pushed off.
