This is well worth 17 minutes. Mr. Byrne describes how architecture thru the ages has changed music, and also includes how both jazz improv and power ballads were developed, why .mp3's are compressed, and even relates it all to bird songs. Very fascinating! :handgestures-thumbup:

This is a very interesting topic, but not terribly original. I've read dozens of essays, papers, and articles discussing exactly the same thing but with more details and examples.

If you haven't seen any of those other writings, this is a very good summary of that work (aside from the political silliness he stumbled over near the end).

One can spend hours, even days, finding more examples of music, style, art, and such which results from unique environments or formats.

That was pretty cool, thanks Flint.
What are you thanking Flint for? Botch posted the video.

I haven't really seen or read anything about this in the past, it was new to me. I've always been led to believe the "loudness wars" (overly-compressed music) was designed to make your song "stand out" on the radio, and get more airplay. (does "radio airplay" even count anymore? :?: ). And the birdsong info was new to me too.
