Dish Anywhere

Anybody that has dish, have you tried this service? We were on a short vacation last week, decided I'd try this with an extra ipad we had here at work. I was only able to get two movies to actually store on the device, and that took well over 24 hours for each movie to transfer.

I also tried to stream movies and shows from our dvr back home, and it was horrible, but that may be more the fault of my internet at home, which uploads are a measly 2mbps. I did find it cool that you could pull up your guide from home, and stream live tv of shows from your programming guide. That worked well for me.

I use it fairly frequently when traveling with mixed results. If I have a strong cellular or wifi signal I am usually able to watch whatever I want with few, if any, hiccups. I've never attempted to download and store any content so I cannot speak to that.

I haven't delved into it, but since Netflix worked fine on either the 4G or wifi, and dish anywhere was play for a few and then pause and load, I'm assuming it was because it was having to upload it off my receiver at home. I've got decent download speeds at home, but uploading is slow. Didn't watch much tv anyways, but it was at least nice to have Netflix to watch at the end of the day.

Last year when I was visiting in laws in Huntsville, I was able to watch a couple of SEC football games via Dish anywhere and my hotel's free WiFi.

Only bummer was having to watch the games on my phone, because I forgot my laptop.

It worked great as far as watching "live tv", which I'm wondering was streamed from somewhere else. Trying to watch our recorded shows was almost impossible, but I'm guessing that was more the fault of my slow upload speed at home.

I've not tried DVR content. Would one's own WiFi network being suitable for a demo? I'm thinking no, but thought about seeing if I could stream a show to my phone later on today to see results.

As long as your phone isn't on the same network, that should be a good test. We have decent download speeds, 15 mbps, but the upload is a dismal 2 mbps.
