The music was what threw me off (Chariots of Fire?? WTF?), but I didn't know it was fake. I thought the uploader probably had a sick sense of humor.
 
Montreal is a hotbed of animation - in large part due to some great college and university programs.

I heard the students involved being interviewed. The prof challenged them to produce something that would garner much attention (ie. go viral). They succeeded (exceeded!)

They apparently put hundreds of man-hours into this.

One of the students: "I think we might get a good grade for this."

I'm curious to know what others in that class did - and if the next viral "hoax" will come from them.
