Watching this on the History Channel, great show! So far they've talked about Mr. Roddenberry's vision of a more unified humanity, using aliens and androids to take the place of other races, creeds, nationalities, etc. Now they're talking about how science influenced science fiction and in return influenced science again (the Enterprise's communicators (cell phones), tricorder/pads (iPads), holodecks (VR sets), even phasers/photon torpedoes (excess energy capacity of the LCS, drones, etc)).
