I started to post this in the "What are you listening to?" thread, but realized it deserves its own thread.
The Man In The Brown Shorts™ brought my new copy of Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, in 5.1 Surround SACD. :music-rockout:
This one's gonna take some time to digest. The original (I believe I just have the vinyl release) I know like the back of my hand; this is definitely a new mix from the original multitracks. The first track didn't sound very good (Second-Hand News), but the next one, Dreams, (a huge favorite of mine) was stunning. I remember the intro being a very solid bass guitar, drums, and wispy lead guitar breezes blowing in and out, softly. On this mix, there's a very prominent, syncopated electric piano that I don't even remember hearing on the original! Like I said, there's some digesting time coming up.
The bass guitar is subdued on the entire recording, compared to the original; and the vocals have a lot more reverb (not an improvement, IMNSHO); the harmonies seem to be mixed very equally, through all speakers, including the leads (not at all like, say, A Night At The Opera...) I caught a lot of extra guitar, percussion, and keyboard parts here and there, that I don't remember from the original. New flavors.
This one was definitely worth the (inflated) cost. I'll probably be going thru my FM collection over the next couple weeks, and posting here. You should too. :handgestures-thumbup:
