Fox, WTF?

So there was a Family Guy episode the other night, and they were playing an old school console game, 8 bit style, and the game had a glitch were one guy could just make 3 point shots the entire game. I guess the footage shown of the game was taken from a Youtube channel, and when the episode aired, Fox did whatever they had to do with copyrighted material and Youtube, and had Youtube pull down the original video, the one Fox had lifted in the first place. Youtube complied. :text-link: to the article.

Sounds like YouTube is just as guilty.

YouTube, WTF?

So, how many strikes do you have to have against you before YT nukes your channel? Is the channel nuked for good or for a finite period of time? if it's not for good, I guess you can start uploading videos again too?

I'm not saying that FOX isn't wrong but the process is almost entirely automated. The big content makers have Software that scans YouTube for digital fingerprints and generates a request to YouTube where their software does pretty much the exact same thing. If there is a match the offending video is taken down, automatically. YouTube has to do this lest they be liable for distributing copyrighted content. There is a process to appeal the takedown but from all accounts is tedious, frustrating, and time consuming. My bet is that the original video will be back up soon if it isn't already.

Yeah, you're probably correct Towen about it being an automated process. I'm guessing the original content wasn't copyrighted, so Fox was free to use that content as they saw fit.

Yeah, my stepson makes his living from putting his videos on YouTube. He has videos taken down all the time, always automatically. He just emails them, gets an explanation and then explains how the request was wrong and his videos get restored.

The show was hilarious by the way. The Tecmo football and basketball clips. My favorite was when when Chris goes to Stewie's room and you hear him having his way with Rupert the teddy bear.
