Gone girl - the spoiler packed spoiled thread

War Never Changes
Famous
so, after seeing people watch gone girl, what are your thoughts on this.

Just a faint reminder, this thread WILL Contain spoilers. So if you havent watched it, id consider er... reconsidering?

Thoughts?

Was it as good as you'd want it to be? what made it better, worse? what? no baby dolls?

Me too! I think Matt also mentioned that karm bus should've shown up earlier.

I was thinking it was trying at times to achieve too much, like it crammed all of her personality into it.

Really wanted to see how it would've panned out.

I thought the fact that the karma bus never showed up made the ending way more chilling.

I don't have a lot to add other than I WAS completely into the movie. Sure the couple seemed to be the perfect couple in the flashbacks. Then we learn that both Nick and Amy are just really POS humans...as it turns out Amy even more so than Nick. But from the moment her plan falls through and she arrives back in the driveway the whole story/movie just went off a cliff. And the directorial choice to pause the scene at that very moment just seemed too staged. Literally like a the end of an act in a play. When Amy fell into Nicks arms everyone in the frame stopped moving. But also from that moment I lost my ability to suspend my disbelief any further (which I expect to have to do to some extent in every movie). And the ending just plain sucked IMO. I can't begin to imagine under any circumstances leaving things the way they were when the movie ended....that's my two cents and I really have nothing else to say.

^But can you think of a better way to end it? Her whole fucking life was an act (thanks parents!) and Nick didn't seem to have much of an out from the psycho bitch if he didn't want his kid born in prison.

I'll definitely see the movie again and I should probably re-read the book. My initial reaction to the movie, though, was that it did a good job of capturing the essence of the book but also held its own as a distinct work of art.

The author has three books, Gone Girl being the last (and best), and one of the others (Sharp Objects or Dark Places) is apparently going to be made into a movie as well.

Karma needed to run over Amy but back up and run her over again. After watching the movie I turned to Michelle and said, "I've said it once I've said it a thousand times, you women are truly evil bitches". Men would just act out of foolishness and do something stupid right away but not women they'll drag out the revenge and make sure the agony goes on for a long time.

You gotta give credit to the book and movie when the main characters are pretty despicable yet capable of captivating your attention. And to me, Amy's parents were the most despicable...

Uh yeah...Nick was cleared of any crimes he was suspected of. The bitch should've gone to prison and the child left with Nick after his/her birth. Clearly she's an unfit mother. Despite it being a cinematic/literary work, them winding up having to live it out is simply so far-fetched (to me) the ending just didn't hold up under any circumstances.

The parents were indeed warped, but Amy is a whole other level of twisted. The trio make Nick look like a boy scout, despite his infidelity.

I enjoy thinking of the future, of Nick wanting to do right by the child but constantly having to look over his shoulder, constantly having to analyze and re-analyze ever word his says. I guess just thinking about his fate given the choice he made satisfies me in the end.

Why did Nick so easily accept that it was his child - even assuming that she was pregnant in the first place?

This was one movie where the viewer had to deeply suspend their disbelief to the point of gullibility and just "enjoy" it for its mise-en-scene and performances.

And it's not a case of the screenwriter taking the author's work and ruining it: they're one in the same person!

I thought the complete unwillingness of the police to investigate was a huge stretch, given the enormous gaping holes in her story.

Thats the thing right, at the last quarter of the movie, he said he never laid a finger on her, but DID say was there every a baby in the first place? maybe it was the champagne...

i believe it was neil's baby, and well, it is a screwed up, wait a f*cked up kinda human being. im glad im getting this thread warmed up a bit.

Heres my two gist of it.

1. why the f*ck did she wear a fanny pack! how did that oddball couple knew she had money, and if ever, she was smarter than sh*t to hide it better, or better yet run like hell knowing they had her made. lets say she does get gipped by the couple, why not go and kill them or what not. for the book readers, was it at one point mentioned why she couldve taken further steps against them? i know it was keystone moment, a turning point that 'pushed' her out of her comfort zone, and into adjusting her story, but it just sucks she can kill a man she knew and yet cant do sh*t against that couple

2. i wish i knew what id do if i was in ben's character. or even the sister. knowing that 'its the right thing' will not guarantee my sanity during the remaining of my life. He wasnt necessarily tied down to amy, and could essentially just leave afterwards.

considering how 'persistent' the lead detective was, why she couldnt 'act' more on it, despite bens side of the story.

truthfully tho, as much as i want to admit it, the ending was good. i wanted more, but if ever, it mightve ruined it more to swallow.

if you guys liked this movie, try walk amongst the tombstones.

^^ THIS!

The only redeeming part of this whole movie was the inserting wine bottle scene. :happy-smileygiantred:

I turned to Michelle and said, "at least she's marinating my meal before I dine".

Finally got a chance to see it this weekend, and thought it was a pretty good movie. They knew she had money because when they were mini golfing, she jumped when she made a good shot, and the money fell out and they saw it. And Ben wouldn't leave because he knew she would keep him from seeing his child, which he could not live with.

She was definitely a psycho, but I did not see the boxcutter scene coming. I figured something was coming, just didn't expect to see him get his throat slit. I will say, Rosamund Pike can rock a pair of panties.

I know, but the fact is, she would've been smarter to hide the money in the house instead of packing. anyways, it was interesting why she didn't do anything 'extreme' as she did with NPH to the odd couple.

I've avoided this thread like the plague (largely because of Haywood's "mind fuck" comment) because I didn't want anything else I read to influence (read: ruin) my experience watching this movie.

Babs and I watched it last night. We really enjoyed it right up until its terrible ending. I'm now convinced directors do this on purpose just to get people talking about it.
