It isn't my music, I am from an ancient generation who listens to different modes and feelings, but I have the deepest respect for the Gorillaz and what they have done. In fact, I am shocked more bands like them haven't cropped up.

So, a bunch of geniuses from the pop-rock music scene and art world formed a virtual band with guest musicians, writers, and so, all represented by four cartoon characters. They produced high concept top quality animated videos and created concerts where they are in essence the backup band for a cadre of guest singers, instrumentalists, school choirs, and so on. They even appeared "live" on award shows as animated holograms with other artists dancing and singing around the virtual animated musicians.
Listening to Gorillaz and watching their videos is unlike anything ever. We don't go into detail on the individuals behind the project, though we know who they are. We just enjoy the music and videos and events... wait, events?
That's right, to launch the latest and long-overdue album, Gorillaz used some crazy ass tech to have a huge virtual listening party for the entire world of their latest album, with what feels like live interaction with the animated band members. Part game, part VR, part listening, the phone app they launched will build up more and more excitement for the album release this summer.

They have also already had a few pop-up houses in major cities where some of the music was heard.

These guys are geniuses because it brings the idea of music and art to a new level which takes full advantage of the technology as young people are using it.
Aside from a totally brilliant vision and cost, I don't understand why there hasn't been more "bands" like this cropping up. The closest we've ever really had was The Monkees and The Archies, since Josie and the Pussycats chose not to pursue pop-stardom by relying solely on the cartoon for income. All of those efforts are decades old.
I love this concept and I hope they are unimaginably successful, as they deserve it.
