HDMI ....picture but no audio output from Oppo bluray player

Trying to figure out what the problem is. I'm stumped. This morning my kids watched part of The Lion King on Bluray. Everything was fine. Tonight ..picture but no audio. Swapped HDMI cables..no difference. Tried turning stuff off and on in different order..no difference. I am worried that it is the BD/DVD input on my Onkyo TX-SR508 receiver. It makes a clicking noise as usual, HDMI display flashes then goes out. It is as if it can't make the HDMI connection. As I said I tried a different cable so does that mean it is a problem with the receiver itself. If I try hooking the bluray player up to the CBL/Sat input(assuming I can do this) and it works do I then rightly assume that that input is fried? Nothing else changed from morning to evening? Any other suggestions?
THanks,
Mike

Trying a different HDMI input on the receiver will help isolate the problem to the input, but if the problem is with the receiver in general it won't. Have you tried plugging the player straight into the TV to see if the issue might be on the player end?

I might also suggest trying another source component in that particular input or in the receiver. If that works, the player is toast.

Take a peek at the Oppo audio format setup, make certain no one fiddled with settings. HDMI audio should be bitstream.

Swapped a panny bluray player and got video and SOUND over HDMI. Tried a bluray, ,dvd and cd in the Panny. Audio for all. Went back to Oppo again, tried bluray, dvd and cd , no Audio over HDMI.

Unless a board in the Oppo has failed, the issue has to be in the Oppo setup.

I'd give the fine folks at Oppo a jingle and bounce the issue off them. They're very helpful and friendly.

I did in fact give them a jingle and one of his suggestions...is the volume on the player on. Of course I thought, I always leave it at 100%. Go upstairs bring it back down plug it in and the volume of course is at 0. Sometimes giving kids autonomy with the universal remote is not always a good thing. Keeps them out of your hair briefly but in the end they always f&*k something up.
Oh well, live and learn!!

Glad you've found the culprit.

As a side note; I ran across the Oppo volume setting Sunday night (dunno why it exists) but never put 2 and 2 together regarding your issue.
