I am a ROCK STAR!!! ROFLMAO

Ok, so I am nowhere near a rock star, but I got on stage and played live last night for the first time and I have to say it was even cooler than I thouhgt it would be.

I have been going to an open mike night on thursdays at a local place. It is hosted by a different band every week (4 bands rotate). Last night I went and the wifey wanted to go too, which was a little weird cuz she hates the kind off music (usually harder rock) they play. But I know most of the guys in the different bands and I am pretty good friends with a lot of them

We were hanging out and it was getting late, it had been a weird kind of comical night anyway, and on their last break the guys were laughing that they didn't want to play anymore cuz the bass player, who is a buddy of mine, was bein moody. So, I told them if they did Whole Lotta Love by Zeppelin that I would play bass.

I wanted to do that song cuz it is the only song I can really play all the way through and not wreck. Plus, the guys that were playing last night all do a phenomenal job on that song. The guitar play is fantastic and so is the drummer. One of my LONG TIME friends is the other guitar player and sings most of the songs.

They called me up and introduced me and told every one they werre popping my cherry. I wasn't really all that nervous cuz there were also a BUNCH of friends in the audience so I felt pretty comfortable.

My buddy Rob hands me his Rickenbacker :happy-smileygiantred: and shows me the volume knob. I noodle just a bit with the volume down and they all look at me like they are waiting for me. Rob jumps back up on the stage and grabs the volume knob and says "turn it up ALL THE WAY".

Clint plays the opening riff and I started jamming. I know I had a couple of minor fumbles, but I just kept going and I honestly think I did fairly well. I missed my timing on a couple of notes coming out of the guitar solo weird parts. but the drummer nodded approvingly. Afterwards, I could not wait to hand that bass back to Rob and get off the stage. Weird cuz I got nervous after the song was over. But, we got a REALLY big round of applause. Thank you to all of my friends. :laughing-rolling:

Rob stopped me and told me tha the was using his in ear monitors and that I sounded great. He said Dude, I could hear every note you were playing and you sounded great. He acted like he was very pleasantly surprised.

I know I have rambled long enough so in closing I will say this. This is the first time I have ever played anywhere outside of my hoouse or work and teh first time I had ever played with any other musician in any manner. I had never jammed with a drummer or guitar player, I dove in head first and I absolutely loved it. It was kind of intoxicating for me and an aphrodisiac for my wife. :banana-rock:

That's awesome, Randy! I know the feeling well as that situation has happened to me a few times thanks to one of my very best friends. Kudos to you! :text-bravo:

So did you disprove your claim of panties dropping from bass playing? :happy-smileygiantred:

LOL, I dont want to kiss and tell, but ya, I guess I did. That's not really fair though, cuz she is my wife and she was in a really lovey mood all night anyway.

Congrats Randy.................that takes a lot of nerve to do that, however with a place full of friends, I guess it makes it a little easier..........Props to you brother!!!!

As far as the wifey in a lovey mood................well you married guys know, you gotta get it while you can :laughing-rolling:

Congrats my friend. Seems your wife loved the "show" also........next time, please leave the door unlocked.....I tried to pick-up my old clock that is sitting on a fireplace ? Don't tell me you moved it ?
By the way.did anyone record that event...for youtube ( just the music playing....not the wife gig that happened :teasing-tease: )

Careful Randy... that bug bites hard, that bug bites deep!

Congrats! Glad it went well, and it IS fun as hell, ainnit?

Randy whips out his bass and his wife goes straight for the organ!

Sounds like you had a great time Randy! Good for you, although, a short video would have been nice. Of you playing, not the afterparty! :happy-smileygiantred: Although if you have any naked pictures of your wife, I would look!

Awesome Randy. Glad you had a great night. :handgestures-thumbup:

Rock on dude!!! :music-rockout:

Well, there is no video, of either part. My wife takes a million pictures and very rarely am I involved. They are usually pictures of her acting like an idiot, but the one time that I might have actually wanted my picture taken, she left her phone in the truck. So, no pictures and no video.

Barney, the wife moved the clock but it is now sitting on the floor next to the hearth. Just so you know where it is for next time.

Botch, damn brother you aint kiddin. I hate to go on like a little school girl, but that was seriously the coolest thing I have done in a long time. I am still kinda buzzin from the whole experience today. I always said that I never wanted to be in a band, I just wanted to play, but I may have changed my mind. Unfortunately my work schedule would be super hard to deal with. From everything I have heard it is hard enough with all of the things you have to go through anyway to have a band, my schedule would never allow anything consistent.

Randy,

It never hurts to find a couple of guys and just jam once in a while, you never know you may end up in front of a crowd again someday soon!

It has been almost 30 years since my gigging days and reading your thread on this brought back memories instantly!!!!

This is from 1979.......

LOL! I found Randy's gig online. He did upload it after all. He doesn't hit his stride until the 2:51 mark.
