Just read a blurb in Newsweek about this one over lunch today. Hollywood has a really bad feeling about this movie, an Avatar-sized expense that they're already comparing to Ishtar. One top dawg from the studio has already been fired, its rated PG, has no "name" actors, and zero buzz.
I dunno, the trailer looked like fun, hope its not a complete lemon...

I also read John Carter growing up although I don't remember that much of it now. DC did this as Adam Strange:

I know many of you will see this movie, and I fully expect you to regardless of what I or any critic says about the film, but let me do you a favor by saying please, please lower your expectations.
I'm not going to ruin any surprises the movie has to offer by telling too much, but I will say that I've been a big fan of the series since I was a kid, and the movie is almost like a physical blow to the stomach. I never understood what people meant when they said that George Lucas raped their childhood. I do now. This movie is Phantom Menace bad.For what it's worth, my friends who have never read the book(s) thought it was terrible, too.
If you plan to see it in 3D, know that the 3D is pretty good, but not necessary for this film. The CG is astounding, however. I was very impressed with how the Tharks looked.
