Kansas - Miracles Out of Nowhere

Started putting this in the "Concert Video" section, but it deserves its own thread.

Caught maybe the last third of this on Palladia, it's a new documentary coming out on CD/DVD/Bluray next week, and I'm picking it up. I've seen Kansas live 3 times. The first was at Iowa State U, during their heyday, and they smoked! The second time, Steve's vocals were shot (sounded like cocaine-throat) and he was out of the band after that. The third time, they appeared at the "summer concert series" in Layton, a nice little outdoor ampitheater, what's-her-name really wanted to see them so I got us tix. Steve was back in the band, sounded good, and I noticed he took a Lotus yoga position during the entire intermission behind his keyboards, so I guess he's cleaned up his life. Not many original members left.
The documentary interviewed all original members, and some replacements. Fun to see how the band developed and succeeded. (Dust in the Wind, their biggest hit, started out as a Kerry Livgren "finger exercise" that his wife finally convinced him to develop into a song; the whole band knew it was a masterpiece when they heard the tape playback (even though the harmony vox are hideously out of tune on the chorus!).)
Anxious to see the whole thing; recommended! :handgestures-thumbup:

It was on Palladia, I caught most of it Friday night, but I was flipping back and forth to the NCAA Wrestling Championships.

What I saw of it was really good and I really want to see it again.

Watched this today in between doing school work. Yep, back in school at 53. Anyway, great documentary although it only covered the beginnings and their heyday. I was interested in learning why Steve left the band and how he came back. I also wanted to know what the band is up to today. The real star is the music. Going to have to clean my Kansas records and put them on the turntable.

:text-bump:
Yup, I only caught the last third the first time. Recorded it onto my Dish Hopper thingie, and finally watched the whole thing tonight.
Damn this was great!
The first part is actually the most fascinating, how they lucked out in so many ways to make it Big. I was also amazed at how FAT most of these buys were in the beginning; Dave Hope and Rich Williams were huge, even Walsh was hefty, and the violinist was twice the size he was when they finally made it big (no pun intended). Maybe $175/week split 6 ways does a musician good. :angelic-green:
I promised myself to get this video, tonight I need to make good on that. Fantastic story and video! :handgestures-thumbup: :handgestures-thumbup: :handgestures-thumbup:
