Listen to the First Genderless AI Voice

Still sounds more female to me, but whatever floats your boat. Personally I want Jarvis (ala Tony Stark) to be my AI voice or maybe Kathleen Turner for the weekends. She's got that whiskey and cigarettes, low frequency voice for a woman that sounds cool.

The robot from Lost In Space I liked a lot, "Danger Will Robinson, danger) or the droid from Rouge One K2SO had a pretty dry sense of humor.

This isn't directed at you Troy, but why is gender such a bad thing to certain groups? To me, the voice sounds like a male who's trying to somewhat sound like a female. There are pleasing sounding male and female voices, and there are irritating male and female voices, but I have never once wished that it didn't sound like a gender.

I don't like it and would prefer it not be used for my voice interactive systems.

The monologue is spoke also wreaked of social justice activism with the intent of changing the world. I don't like activism of this sort. Accepting others which are different from the norm is important, but so is accepting those who fall into the norm.

I don't believe this should be getting writeups in audio rags about home entertainment.

But those are just my feelings.

I thoroughly enjoyed Liam Neesons voice on Waze when it was available...and if it were available I’d enjoy Kate Beckinsale’s even more.

My girls liked the Boy Band option. It was goofy but they would always sing "Police reported ahead"

I think it’s part of the current genderless movement, I read some Hollywood celebrity was raising her baby genderless, say what?

Like most fads this too shall pass, but for the short term expect more stuff like Jaden Smith.

Huey, I don’t have any gender issues. So I know you’re not talking about me.

Just giving you a hard time Rob.

Why am I not surprised it's from VICE media.

It does sound off putting- even for those who like to play with gender and identify as, oh, a half eaten Hostess Cupcake or something, there's some kind of general tone to the voice that's deeper (male) or higher (female). Losing all of that puts the voice not in a place that's going to move society forward, but in some uncanny valley for audio.

There's actual research showing female voices tend to be preferred for things like electronic assistants. This is just discomfiting people so they can make a point. And the point is a silly one anyway- of all the things supporting heteronormativity, our electronic assistants are hardly the primary drivers.
