Miles Ahead

You all know that I'm 96% music buff, and 4% movie buff. It's kind of a shame as I live right in the center of the annual Sundance Film Festival, where independent movie makers compete for fame, fortune, awards and a distributor. Films that saw the light of day here include Napoleon Dynamite, Little Miss Sunshine, Blaire Witch Project, 500 Days of Summer, and Searching for Sugarman. After living here for 20 years, today I finally attended my first debut, Miles Ahead:

It's a fictionalized account of Miles' return to the studio/stage after spending five years sitting at home. Great acting, great one-liners, some great music, but there were so many flashbacks/flashforwards/dream sequences I had a bit of a hard time following it all. His "comeback concert" at the end of the film features Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and I believe Esperanza Spaulding on bass (I didn't recognize the others). Worth seeing, but it's no Ray.

Most of the festival action is up at Park City (Sting played a surprise gig up there last night, would've loved to have been there), but Ogden gets a few shows at the beautiful Egyptian Theater:

...and this was about one of my musical heroes. Worth a Jackson. :handgestures-thumbup:
