Montana

Every year I make my pilgrimage to Montana to become a human being again. Here are a few videos I've taken over the years...

Awesome. My parents often spent time up in Montana, my dad & grandma would go fly fishing. I have vague memories of the place from when I was very young (like 5-ish), but I'd love to go back as an adult.

Nice vids! And the drone was awesome, that'd be a lot of fun.

There is nothing I want more than to get some time away from life, in a setting EXACTLY like that.

I am insanely jealous.

Great videos, TKoP! :eusa-clap:

I've been on two separate week-long backpacking trips up there (Bitterroot NF), with a guide who used to guide rich dentists (ahem) but traded in his rifles for Nikons and did photo tours instead. I had to schlep my own camera gear/tripod, while 3 llamas would carry our tents, food and camping gear. Best times of my life, unfortunately he went bankrupt and I lost track of him (his wonderful wife went along and was a primo campfire chef). You've not been awakened until you're awakened by a bugling elk just outside your tent! :scared-yipes:

I might be biased, but really, REALLY, you need to go. Bring your fly rod and a camera. For me, there is no place better in the world. Hit Yellowstone, hit Glacier National Park, hit the bison range, etc. And then all of the creeks, rivers, lakes -- great fishing still.

You should be -- tt is EXACTLY what you say you want. The cabin in the vids is located in that meadow that sits in a valley between two mountains and butts up against a national forest.
Nearest neighbor -- maybe half a mile down the road. The next human being you might see is another 2 miles down the road.
You MAY see some car drive up the road (seen on the drone video) -- but usually, nothing is seen save whomever is staying at the cabin.

I don't know what it is, but the Sky is bigger there.

I've been pretty lucky in that the wild life I've seen has been a relative distance... except this year. I had a cow moose get within about 10ft from me when it came towards me (I judiciously tried to keep this barely-a-tree between the two of us.

You do have to be careful of proper oral hygiene.

Totally agree, and I can't explain it either. I have a couple engineering degrees, studied photography most of my life, read lotsa science, etc; but I have no explanation as to why the sky in Montana looks SO much bigger than anywhere else I've visited.
I don't get it.
