This is what happens when you put a great drummer in front of a band playing completely out their element. Peart is great, but he doesn't have the native big-bang sensibilities needed to really pull off playing with the Buddy Rich orchestra. And I am not dissing him, very few can pull off being great rock/prog drummers and kill it with big band - I think Steve Smith (famous from Journey) and Omar Hakim are about the only two who really do it well.
