OLEDs by Christmas

I'm not. In my former life as a manager of U-verse installation and repair technicians I have been inside many homes and seen many TVs. Sony sets are a rare find.

That's not surprising. I think most people wouldn't pay $2500 for a 46" Sony when they can get a 46" Yorx or GPX at Walmart for $699. They either don't know why the Sony set is better, or they don't care.

I bet you saw a lot of Polk and Bose speakers but very few Dynaudio.

The really cheap crap was out there for sure, but it really depended on the neighborhood. Westinghouse, Yorx, GPX, etc were usually in bedrooms and kitchens. In the "nicer" homes with, 1/2 decent equipment, Samsung and Panasonic were the most common brands by far. I think Sony makes nice stuff, but not enoug to justify the price premium for most applications.

Pioneer KURO is an excellent example of "or they don't care".

is Sony's cost that much higher or are they stubborn in pricing? Samsung and Panasonic are killing them, I see more Vizio's than Sony.

Are you ovulating this week, Rope? Why so sensitive? You KNOW I know the Kuro is a high end set.

Here, let me make it up to you. Most people wouldn't pay $2500 for a Pioneer Kuro plasma when they can buy a Vizio at Sam's Club for $999.

Better? :eek:bscene-drinkingcheers:

A friend bought one of the first Sony LCD sets some years ago. It was nothing but trouble and since has said more than once he would go without a TV before he bought another Sony.

I think it was during this time period that Sony sets were horrible and that has reputation has stuck even if it may not be warranted now.

$2,500 would have been a bargain for a Kuro. Which is why, to Zing's point, they don't make them anymore. We'll see if the new Panasonic VT50's or even more expensive Sharp Elite (name borrowed from Pioneer) sets are on the market long.

Hummm, guess they don't care about PQ.

Sony is able to absorb losses on their flat panel manufacturing, since that's not their only dog in the fight.

So at least 9K for a 55inch. How many years do you figure before the price drops to something more realistic?

Well Towen, you didn't come to my home & see my 46" Sony Brava LCD that has been outstanding because your Company can't offer any type of service in my area....AT&T can only offer wireless phone.....

I am still so happy with the Samsung LED Light Engine DLP set I bought in 2007 that I'm not even tempted to buy another set. I'll probably keep it until it croaks, which shouldn't be for at least another 8 years.
